Neutral base or bandit camp?

I know the team isn't looking for suggestions just yet, so this is purely to see what others think and gauge interest....

I know that in the occasional game where I decide to be a total thug it would be nice to have a base camp someplace less obvious than taking my own castle. Anyone else think having a quest line to get to a hidden bandit camp where you could do business and recruit or a hidden outlaw fortress type thing would be interesting?

Yh , that would be indeed quite cool... maybe there could even be some unique companions , mercs and quests there.

Actually I was having a thought related to this lately...would it be possible to add Barclay or one of the other "off-map" cities as someplace you could only reach via npc boat travel or something like that? (Of course boats in general would be nice too...but that's just me, I like sailing around burning things...)

Zendar has been shifted off-plane ever since MnB 1.0. It shan´t come back.

The only safe place for bandits and other scumbags is the gallows or the cages outside the city gates.

Apart from that, there´s always the Noldor.

I was originally thinking of something more like the Crimean city (Cherson I think it was) in Rux 13th where you could base if you were a faction-less bandit.

I'm okay with the team sticking to the do-gooder side of things ( I get that "going bad" is a bit outside the original intent of the mod) but in my ideal world, the scumbag side could use a bit more depth.

Cherson was just a resurrection of Zendar. Zendar was a neutral (white) town in the middle of the pre 1.001 MnB map. It was taken out.

If you want a neutral town with merchandise available, go get good relations with the Noldor and declare their castle as your hideout.

Heh, that would explain my incomprehension of zendar then...I didn't start playing M&B until after it was gone...

It was always a safe place. A haven to manhunters and an enemy of the smelly river pirates who were the old versions of looters.

Zendar was around from some of the earliest M&B games, and could still be put back into the game through V 1.001, but has not been available since.  Just like some of the heroes who only turned up later in tournaments, who were occasionally resurrected in various older mods.

Part of the challenge of PoP is that you have to make your own safe base and citadel.  Nothing comes to you easily in PoP -you have to take it and keep it, or lose it.  Providing a base for Player right off the bat would reduce the challenge.  And yes, SD prefers that we absolutely steer clear of encouraging anyone to be a "scumbag" (quote: Graycloak) in the game.  SD's a paladin at heart and he's the boss.
