I gotta say, no armor and just a helmet looks epic.
OMG thank you for commenting! I've been wanting to ask y'all - everyone interested - a few questions but didn't want to triple post or edit the first chapter! *hugs* And yes, yes it does. Don't forget the furry boots though.
IMPORTANT SUCCESSION GAME QUESTIONS:
I'd like to pat myself on the back and give you all a handshake for generating so much interest in this in such a short period of time. *pats and shakes simultaneously* This has, however, generated a problem: lots of people want to play Nekked right now and have that be part of the story instead of waiting 72 hours with only silence from the current player until the next person's turn. The reason I implemented a linear system here was to keep things simple. I've tried a succession game before (
link here) and seen it fail miserably.
The thread that gave me the idea (
link here) was full of people with high interest and when I took the initiative and started a character - albeit, one not as iteresting as Ms. Steel - all that interest died and I think it's because I scared the bejeezus out of them with a huge first chapter, lots of rules, and an entirely cryptic organizational system; basically, I over-complicated it to death.
I want Nekked Steel to thrive and have many adventures in the hands of many people who then relate those adventures to the rest of us here and so far she seems on track for just exactly that. However, I begin to worry that 72 hours is too long for a turn and that someone getting excited to play with only a helmet on but with 2 weeks to wait for their official turn will lose interest.
There is a solution but I think it's the very thing that killed my Ogdelbur succession game through complication and lack of focus: supporting parallel futures, letting people play any number of timelines of any length off of my first save file. I have a system that can track and make sense of all chapters posted by participants, one that sorts them into parallel lives for easy comprehension.
To be clear, the point of all this is fun so feel free to play Nekked without ever uploading a chapter and even after doing so.
So the questions are these:
1) Should we shorten the length of turns? If so, what should we shorten it to?
2) Should we keep an official storyline wherein participants wait for their turn as well as allow other timelines to develop?
3) Should we abolish turns altogether and let anyone play off any other save for as long as they want?
My thoughts:
1) If we keep turns I think they should be shortened to 48 hours.
2) I like this idea because it keeps some sort of focus, however, Fidelity found a Red Brotherhood hideout on day 6 or so and now has a very early qualis gem, 2 if he went to Rane for the freebie there. That's map and badass weapon within the first 2 weeks. That makes his - an unofficial side adventure - probably the preferred line to play off of.
3) I'm scared of this because I think it sank my last effort and yet love it because with active and interested people we could see some very cool parallel realities develop for Ms. Steel. Hell, Fidelity's 1 refugee died and in the game I continued after uploading, that same 1 refugee just leveled up! I think it could be fantastic if this option works but am scared to even offer it.
Edit: wow, it took long enough for me to get my thoughts down that 3 more comments came in!
As per the helmets, I considered requiring exactly that but held off for reasons you should be able to guess by now... ^^^^^^^^
