I gotta say, no armor and just a helmet looks epic.

We should change what helmet each of us uses each time, and keep them in her inventory, or castle when we get one.

Haha! I couldn't contain my laughter when i saw the first pic.

I think i woke my brother up though.

But it should be interesting to view how this progresses.

OMG thank you for commenting! I've been wanting to ask y'all - everyone interested - a few questions but didn't want to triple post or edit the first chapter! *hugs* And yes, yes it does. Don't forget the furry boots though.

IMPORTANT SUCCESSION GAME QUESTIONS:
I'd like to pat myself on the back and give you all a handshake for generating so much interest in this in such a short period of time. *pats and shakes simultaneously* This has, however, generated a problem: lots of people want to play Nekked right now and have that be part of the story instead of waiting 72 hours with only silence from the current player until the next person's turn. The reason I implemented a linear system here was to keep things simple. I've tried a succession game before (link here) and seen it fail miserably.

The thread that gave me the idea (link here) was full of people with high interest and when I took the initiative and started a character - albeit, one not as iteresting as Ms. Steel - all that interest died and I think it's because I scared the bejeezus out of them with a huge first chapter, lots of rules, and an entirely cryptic organizational system; basically, I over-complicated it to death.

I want Nekked Steel to thrive and have many adventures in the hands of many people who then relate those adventures to the rest of us here and so far she seems on track for just exactly that. However, I begin to worry that 72 hours is too long for a turn and that someone getting excited to play with only a helmet on but with 2 weeks to wait for their official turn will lose interest.

There is a solution but I think it's the very thing that killed my Ogdelbur succession game through complication and lack of focus: supporting parallel futures, letting people play any number of timelines of any length off of my first save file. I have a system that can track and make sense of all chapters posted by participants, one that sorts them into parallel lives for easy comprehension.

To be clear, the point of all this is fun so feel free to play Nekked without ever uploading a chapter and even after doing so.

So the questions are these:

1) Should we shorten the length of turns? If so, what should we shorten it to?
2) Should we keep an official storyline wherein participants wait for their turn as well as allow other timelines to develop?
3) Should we abolish turns altogether and let anyone play off any other save for as long as they want?

My thoughts:
1) If we keep turns I think they should be shortened to 48 hours.
2) I like this idea because it keeps some sort of focus, however, Fidelity found a Red Brotherhood hideout on day 6 or so and now has a very early qualis gem, 2 if he went to Rane for the freebie there. That's map and badass weapon within the first 2 weeks. That makes his - an unofficial side adventure - probably the preferred line to play off of.
3) I'm scared of this because I think it sank my last effort and yet love it because with active and interested people we could see some very cool parallel realities develop for Ms. Steel. Hell, Fidelity's 1 refugee died and in the game I continued after uploading, that same 1 refugee just leveled up! I think it could be fantastic if this option works but am scared to even offer it.

Edit: wow, it took long enough for me to get my thoughts down that 3 more comments came in!

As per the helmets, I considered requiring exactly that but held off for reasons you should be able to guess by now... ^^^^^^^^

1) Should we shorten the length of turns? If so, what should we shorten it to?

I vote yes, to 48 or even 24 hours. I think the fun part about this is that the character changes SO much during the course of each person's turn. Everyone gets to add their own little twist. It isn't about how LONG you get to play but about how MANY people get to play.

2) Should we keep an official storyline wherein participants wait for their turn as well as allow other timelines to develop?

I don't like the idea of other timelines. I like the idea of everyone developing the same character. It will make the character much more diverse and I believe we will end up with tons of hilarious moments.

3) Should we abolish turns altogether and let anyone play off any other save for as long as they want?

Definitely not.

Just my opinions.

EDIT: I also think we should have an "Official story thread" for JUST the chapters that are posted. and leave this thread for discussion/spam...Just for the sake of organization.

I tend to agree though I think 24 might be a little short for the less technically-capable to get everything done, have fun, and still post a reasonably entertaining synopsis.

Well, the master chapter list in the OP will bear links to every chapter as it is posted so it'll be easy to find them. I don't know if the mods will look kindly on me making 3 very similar threads in 3 days.

 It always reminds me of a cartoon character and I'm quite sure there should be some sort of zaney sound, laughter, or music that goes with it.

I'll play this type of character, but I'll be a changing the gender to male, and the name. Nekked Steel, I can live with. Bonkanoggin? Not so much. I'll also make the weight rule 5 pounds, so he can wear a tunic... I'll be posting the AAR's here, as a little side thing to laugh about.

Why write it if someone else has already. Total agreement with this post. Especially the edit. Now that the RP event is over, Some others may want to join also.

You might consider posting your AAR in the Pendorian Stories thread or even in your own. I'd like to keep things here as simple as possible and two unrelated characters and stories would be too much.

However, feel free to post an update here when you post a chapter. You might even get someone asking for a save file!

For me 1/3 of the fun would playing it myself, 1/3 seeing what other people do/did before and after, and 1/3 seeing what people were doing with the same character at the same time. Without parallel realities those first two would take up the last one. The only lack would be that updates would come a little less frequently. But that is just my opinion.

That's the hope.

48 is ok and one, official storyline is just necessary, it's a participative AAR and what would an AAR have been without linear narrative? Many storylines are like an experiment to see how sandbox(and emergent narrative) works, but we all know this :razz:
But I have another question(maybe I didn't see info about it): how long one turn should take in-game? Someone will play only 3 hours and possibly others easily above 10.. Are there any limits?

I don't think there should be but if there are then I'd say 1 in-game month.

I think the time limit should still be there. It could be whatever comes first. 48 hours or maybe 3 or 6 game months? Stop at 90 days? 100 days? But the time limit should be there,    1 vote for 48 hrs.

I meant that I don't think there should be any limits on in-game passage of time. I suppose I could see a case for stopping people from racking up huge swaths of time and writing next to nothing...

NEW IMPORTANT QUESTION:
4) Should the amount of in-game time a player gets be limited and if so, what is your suggestion?

My thoughts:
I guess there should be. I think... 30 days and like AxeMaster3 said, a player's turn ends at 48 hours or 30 game days, whichever comes first. An aweful lot can happen in 30 days and if we keep the turns short, we keep the game moving, we all get to play again sooner. In RL time I wouldn't go less than 36 hours though.

Thoughts on this new question? I'm hoping to get enough responses tonight to make a decision and post up any new rules.

Eh, four days has only made me procrastinate on doing anything with her, although I only planned to play 30-60 in-game days. I guess 30 will have to do, since that is what I initially planned to do.

Yet, I really have no say on what you plan on doing, so have at it. This is probably going to end up a jumbled mess at this rate.

I'm on the limit of 30 days in-game(and turn end after 48h real time)

 Well, that's not very encouraging, coming from they guy currently playing the character...

As for what "I" plan to do, I like to think that this is a communal project now, I'm just keeping it from becoming a jumbled mess.
