Negative food caused by loss of prosperity, loss of prosperity caused by negative food

So this issue seems to be like a revolving door that never stops revolving. After sieging a town the food supply was -7 when I checked what was making it negative the biggest and only modifier that was doing this was a loss in prosperity contributing about -57 to daily food. When I checked prosperity I then saw the major factor causing it to be -97 was the loss of food which contributed wholly to the loss. This, in turn, has created a feedback loop, can't get my food up cause I'm losing prosperity, can't stop losing prosperity because I'm losing food.

I think this is actually meant to be a mechanic. Sieges would obliterate local economy, and, without drastic measures taken to fix it, they would continue to plummet. For an expert on the matter, I have consulted the wise Ser Bronn of the Blackwater.

When the prosperity is above 8k, the drain on food is far greater than anything you can build. Prosperity should have an increase net result to food supply, and that prosperity is what now keeps your city going. A siege, specially a long one would slash the prosperity and weeks after your city would be starving due to the aftermath. But as it stands, every city starves, every castle starves...even when all the buildings are at lv 3.

This. I have a castle with level 3 everything and prosperity around 900, it is still starving. Towns seem to have a mechanic to add food directly into the mix but castles don't.

Well im having this problem too, but im wondering if its the bandits in the area...i have 2 towns with my castle and 1 town is saying they need help with a bandit camp and the other needs help with a bandit camp and missing girl. Do the bandits intercept caravans or villagers with food and cause food shortages?

100% that is a thing, one way I helped remedy this was buying up a bunch of food from caravans and selling it back to the town that way they had munchies. Also I noticed as villagers and caravans returned to the town it stopped the food bleed.

not a revolving door, its an ecomony yoyo

I just don’t get why losing prosperity makes you lose food. I can understand starvation lower prosperity, but the inverse? Having such a large negative effect as well, maybe one or two less food because of loss but we’re taking high double digit numbers for this.

This works for towns but it doesn't help much for castles. I cleared every bandit camp and patrolled for 10-15 days to make sure everything moved without an issue but it never changed my food issue in my maxed out castle.

Maybe because of the garrison? It makes sense that a large garrison is harder to feed.

maybe they should let us put food in the stash that the garrison would eat from and that merchants like caravans would not be able to take and sell to other places because i feel part of the problem is when i sell 500 grain to my city to save it from starving then the caravans buy it all because its so cheap.

There's plenty of things they could do to help this issue.

Caravans :
You're right about caravans hoarding the food, caravans should trade mostly other goods than food, and just take in food what they need to sustain the caravan guards. It shouldn't be a way to balance the food needs of the different towns. If the devs want to balance food, make it so food can be traded in limited amount, not by every caravan ever.

Securing supply and trade routes :
They need to reintroduce bounty hunters and patrols to chase bandits and looters and stop them from disturbing villagers and caravans constantly. Maybe not too much, there still need to be some disturbance, but just bring back the bounty hunters and patrols in the future.

Make kings and lords chill the hell out :
We get it, Mount & Blade is a war game, but not just that, nobility should do something else than to just pack up in an army and walk around even when at peace, they syphon a lot of food in the areas they're in, that doesn't help at all.

Create reserves made to sustain armies exclusively :
Maybe there's a way to create some sort of warehouse in towns and castles that stocks a portion of the available food on the market based on the needs of the garrisons and the lord's army who owns the settlement, but that's hard to do if there is no food left because the caravans pick everything.

But I recognize it's all a lot of work and I'm patient. I'm just making suggestions, not being an ass and complaining about it.

have you tried using the build houses option? The increase in prosperity has been decreasing the negative gain on food. Astounding that it’s so easy for these two things to tank your castle. The only reason both are negative is because of each other, it’s one big negative feedback loop.

THIS! I got my first city and I've been trying to make it stop losing food (it's stuck in 0) and nothing I do helps.. I tried removing the entire garrison and it started gaining one unit of food daily, which means it's doomed to stay undergarrisoned forever

this really needs to be fixed ;_;
