I have already seen this error before in the OSP pack, A part of some armors is black, but I have no idea how to fix it... If you know how to fix it please tell me.

Actually I thought it might be some old models and the black parts are shadows, as they only appear on the side opposed to the light comes from in-game*. (can you use opposed in this context? Sounds strange to me :???:)
Never really thought about this as an issue. But now that I read this...
So, only to be sure I made some screenshots to show what I mean:

*the sun, fires, and such

PS: I use the latest drivers and so on.

Yeah Wellenbrecher, that's my issue. Even in the brf files I can see this if I move the armor a bit. Thanks Chel, I will try your suggestion.

I'd like to know if it helped you. Didn't change anything at all in my game though

I've had the same problem since the first EG III, reported it in bug thread but I don't recall anyone noticing.

Updated drivers, rolled back drivers, etc. EG III happens to be the only flavor of M&B that does this though, including those with the same armor packs.

strange.
well playing in DirectX 7 doesn't have that problem, I know that.

Its because the iron shader is used, the Star Wars Conquest mod has the same problem, and is being fixed.

You need to adjust the RGB balance (if I recall) so that the armor can "reflect" just right.

I get it too; in various mods, but mostly armours from the "open source pack" I think. Never bothered reporting it or anything as I run M&B on linux using wine (and latest stable nvidia linux drivers), which isn't really a supported configuration... but I take it the other people in this thread are using windows.

Good to hear it's a fixable problem, I've wondered for a while if there was some tweak to fix it. I guess the fix needs to be done by the modeler and then the files re-exported? Would be nice if I could tweak some text files by hand to fix it, even just a quick workaround to stop the blackness by disabling the problem shader.

I just did a quick search and haven't found anything. Is there a link you can provide or something? I'd really like to know more about this.

Oh, replacing iron_shader or iron_shader_skin with no_shade fixed my problem. Thank you very much.

Hi, could you please elaborate on what you did to fix this? As I said, I'm running with linux and wine; I searched for "iron_shader" in the module directory, the only matches were .brf files under the Resource dir. I tried just using search and replace on the binaries, the mod wouldn't start (as I expected); I then tried getting the "BRFEdit" tool working, it crashes while loading (in function "D3DXCreateEffectFromFileA"). Just asking on the off chance there is another simpler way to fix this that would work for me

This question is old, but maybe the anwser can help someone. The ironshader you must remove is inside the resources folder inside the mod folder. You must have brf to enter, then you must go to the material tab and remove every iron shader you find.

Thanks for your answer

I and others had the same problem with another mod (PoP), but then someone explained how to fix it properly (and uploaded fixed brf files): http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,67335.msg1751427.html#msg1751427

Haven't got around to doing it for EGIII yet.
