Need some advice; about to break off from Nord kingdom, but in a bad spot

Hi all, I'm in a precarious position. I own Rivacheg, the castle next to it and 6 villages scattered about. I just got married and as a vassal to the Nords we've conquered almost all of Vaegir territory. My relation to half the Nord lords is above 30, my RtR is at 12 and going up, i'm ready to break off from the Nords and start my own Kingdom.

I tried this yesterday, I was Marshall and took Khudan and then Reyadin....i renounced my allegiance after Khudan was given to someone else, but then was immediately attacked by 10 Nord Lords. Which made me think, hmm even if I take Khudan for myself...i'll be cornered by the Nord Empire, and these former friends won't cut me any slack...

What to do ? Should i sit back and let other factions declare war on the Nords first? (currently the Sarranids and what's left of the Vaegirs are at war with the Nords).

Thanks!

If the Nords are fighting on more than two fronts, you can try whittling down their army while sending an emissary to ask for truce (you did level up one companion with high negotiation, hopefully?). Once their current force is no longer capable of handling threats on all fronts, there's a good chance they will take the truce (and attack you forty days later).

Theoretically it is more ideal if the Vaegirs and Swadians are at war with them, cause the Sarranids declared war "to curb power" meaning their incursions will not be as ferocious compared to bordering realms. But you gotta take whatever opportunities you have, else you have to wait perhaps endlessly for that perfect chance for a coup.

Just remember to tailor your new forces for a prolong war with the Nords just in case. Which will mean leaving all Huscarls in garrison until absolutely necessary, unless you enjoy watching them desert due to morale hit.

And if the Nords had expanded that far... get your companions to gather intel, there's bound to be disgruntled lords you can pull to your side (especially if Olaf-Harald rivalry has escalated in your game and the jarls start taking sides).

Thanks Nightsteed...that's really helpful, it'll be no doubt a long arduous battle. A part of me kept hoping all the lords i have good relations won't fight me once I leave, but that's a bit silly on my part, since most of them are loyal to King Ragnar. I guess what i'll do is leave the Vaegirs alone, so that they pose at least some kind of threat to the Nords, and then I'll be the 2nd front after taking Khudan.

Try finding a lord that will give you a Raid Caravan to Start war Quest. Since you are a vassal, don't bother randomly asking lords for quests...instead ask local tavernkeepers about jobs, and if a local lord has a quest, the innkeeper will let you know. Usually they are good quests, and well paying too...

Yup... start a few wars before you leave. Usual war-loving suspects in Nords are probably Olaf, Turya or Reamald, depending on your game. Talking to villagers or townsfolks (rumours) will let you know the personality some lords too.

And worst case scenario when you are caught in open battle by overwhelming odds, let them attack and pull the "I'm sorry... please let me go" stunt for the "I do owe you a favor... don't I?" response. They will let you go but you'll take a hit in the relation (-5?). Disgraceful... but live to fight another day.

Edit:

Oh, almost forgotten. Perhaps not all are loyal to Ragnar. Get Marnid or Deshavi to check it out.
