Hello everyone. I have no other friends  , so I am posting here

I was stopped for speeding today and recieved a ticket.

This happened in the state of Maryland (USA), I was driving 73 mph in a 55 mph zone.

It was definitely my fault. The police was stopping a LOT of people there (crackdown? I had to wait in till police could actualy get to me!), their equipment was calibrated.

What I want is to minimize the punishment. As of now, it is a 75$ fine and 2 points on my driving record.
I am more concerned with avoiding the points than with the fine (hell, I did deserve it).

Should I go to court? What do I risk if I do? If I go to court and plead guilty there can I have those points waived? Advice will be appreciated

What Would Fluffy The Hamster Do? (WWFTHD). Fluffy would plead temporary insanity.

That being said. Last person you'd want to ask about court advice would be a 14 year old.

I don't know how it is in Maryland, in California, if you plead guilty you're usually given the option of going to traffic school to remove the points.

But I think it's determined case by case, and 18 over the limit is a bit high :???:

crap this thread reminds me i still gotta pay a parking ticket i got, for trying to pass off as a disabled person :???:

I thought you were twelve or something...

Pay the fine. Stop speeding.

::edit:: I wouldn't bother with court. If they were pulling a lot of people over (you said you had to wait in line to get ticketed?) then your court date will probably be the same as theirs. So the ticketing officer will show up, his word wil be taken over yours (you were speeding after all right?) and you will pay your fine plus court costs.

Not worth it IMO.

It would be reasonable to believe that if you conducted yourself in a very young (but not immature) manner ... the judge might allow you to take defensive driving to keep the ticket off your record.

It is worth going to court to attempt it as you have nothing to lose except an hour or so of sitting in a courtroom. When they call you up ... ask if there is any way that you can keep the points from your record.

Don't be shy ... but do act uncomfortable ... possibly guilty/ashamed.

Good luck with it ... and slow down if you don't want to pay the ticket and/or get the points.

P.S. I don't know if money is an issue ... but keeping the ticket from counting against your record is a very easy and simple process. Hire a very well-known lawyer from your area. He wouldn't do anything but show up and have a quick chat with a few people. 99% of the time you won't even have to go in front of the judge.

You then pay the fine ... and walk away squeaky clean. No safe driving class, no points on your record, and nothing stopping you from doing it all over again except your willingness to avoid spending too much money for a retarded ticket.

Worked every single time for me and I did it numerous times.

The fine is not as much of an issue - the driving record is (I am a perfect driver, right  )

As for the date, you can re-schedule it (Just say that you absolutely can't show up then), so there is a much smaller chance that cop shows up for a 75$ ticket. No cop - I am perfectly innocent.

Also, a friend told me that I can ask the judge to make it a non-moving violation (still fine, but the record is clean)

I made a research on that (after reading your post) and in Maryland it is often a 1-year probation.

Thanks for the advice! That's what I am going to do

And the lesson is: stay away from the left lane and speed in the middle ones - too dangerous for cops to get a car out of there and is not worth it for a petty speeding ticket

In Maryland parking in the disabled spot is like 250 $ I hope it is better where you live.
