Dear Mr Altman

I live in Finland and since many years been very interested in medieval life. Read all the books, seen all the movies and studied the history. I want to help you out with probably the best mod for the best game there is. Since your mod already changes that much in the game I would like to start working with this mod on story and history department. What I would like to do is to change the companions and their backstories. There could also be couple of more of them if game mechanics allow it. Also what I see in the vanilla game is that some of the names of the settlements and lords are really random and bland. I would like to start working on renaming settlements and lords also to give them a little more cultural charasteristic, so to say making the different ****ures really stand out.

As you can probably tell my skills are not on the skinning or modeling but rather in the storytelling. I would love to help out with this great mod if you are interested.

Yours truly, Ackwell

P.S. The size of the viking axes are ridiculous, but it's only my opinion. :)

EDIT: Map editor also looks simple enough. Should be possible to revamp the map a little because again, the vanilla settlements are scattered really randomly.

This would be a great idea, I would love to see it done as a student of history myself.

However, I've heard that editing the map is a huge pain in the ass. Also, I do agree about the viking axes, but everyone else seems to like them.

I already tried it, did some changes to L&R map and seems to work ok... Well, I will continue and do some quality control... to see if I get some problems

Thought the problem with the map is, that AI controlled Lords only perform well on vanilla .. Otherwise don't visit Towns often etc.

About the axes ... ahhh, sure not the most realistic ones - but funny and a 100% historical correct simulation it can never be.  :?

I think to change the backstory of companions isn't important here. But it would be good if anybody could create some main RPG plot which would effect and better even rule all the playing. All default quests in the game and mods are are quite stupid, simple and poor so far and some important and thrilling story would be very good.

Thank you very much for the offer but I have no time now.  :(

Well, no problem. I will keep tweaking my own copy of Lords and Realms and studying python at the same time. Already got the faction names changed to what I think are more fitting.

The Swadian Order (leader will be Grandmaster)
Czardom of Vaegirs (Leader will be Czar)
Khergit Khanate
Kingdom of Nords
Holy Rhodok Empire (I think it fits nicely with their black with white crosses)

Well, maybe I then have my own mod soon :)

Hmmm, nice ideas, but i rather see it that way:

Holy Swadian Empire (leader will be Ruling Steward) / cause honour knights always are holy
Czardom of Vaegirs (Leader will be Czar) .. hmm I see them a bit more normanic
Khergit Khanate
Kingdom of Nords (leader will be Son of Thor)
The Rhodok Order (leader will be Grandmaster) / cause they have much more from an order, like templar or hospitaller

I agree with Henning on those points. Also, you could always make your changes availible in this thread by hosting the files on Filefront.com

I'm sure you could figure it out.

My Vaegirs are not Russians as in every other mod damn it.

Yeah, maybe thats too vanilla... Where would you place them based on thee culture? Byzanth? Croatia? Armenia? Hungary? Poland? I still think it goes somewhere to the eastern Europe culturally anyways...

More middle Europe. Nothing specific. It's not a history mod. Like German, Austrian, Czech or so.

Well, I will anyways start some work on writing background history for the Caldaria itself, all the factions and their kings and so on. If you feel like it you can then implement it or not. I will also rewrite all the claimants for the crowns.

How I think of it now:

The Swadian Empire (Emperor)
Khergit Khanate/Sultanate (Khan or Sheikh, which one you prefer? More arabic or mongol?)
The Holy Rhodokian Order (Grandmaster, probably lords originating from all other factions)
Kingdom of Nords (King/Queen)
Kingdom of Vaegirs (King)

Is it ok to change names of factions and settlements how much? I would like to make them sound less generic.

If you want then do it. But erase all Rhodok name and make them Hospitaler order as they look. Khergit are mongol not arabs. Vaegirs and Swadians are middle/west europeans. Nords are nords Viking Danes, Norwegians and Swedes. Perkele munna vitu. And if you add a Valhatla or something form Kalevala to Nords so be it.
