My windows HDD has been making the occasional odd 'cli-thunk' noise over the past week, and today, it went 'cli-thunk clickyclickyclickyclickyclickyclicky' then crashed, leaving me with a black screen stating "No hard disks detected!". Luckily, after turning it off and on again, it booted in to Windows.
However, I'm going to assume that this drive is on the verge of oblivion, so I'll need another to reinstall windows on it. I've got another 160GB drive that I'm using to backup all the data to, which also quite handily has Ubuntu installed on it so I can dip into that to do the backup if Windows explodes.
I'm looking for the best 160GB SATA HDD that you can get for about £40 from a UK based company to cut down on delivery time and cost.
