ANNOUNCEMENTS

This will be the place for the administration to post announcements regarding Nations Cup 2019.

Group Announcement!

While we are still working on uploading all forum threads, the groups and fixtures have been decided and can be previewed in the spreadsheet below.

France - Turkey Ruling

As many have noticed, a player under the name FRA_Aymerald joined the NC_GER_1 server during the official match between the teams Turkey 1 and France. He caused a disruption in the match by joining the Turkish side and teamkilling players. This ultimately affected the final result (an 8-8 draw). We hope to address a few important questions some might have in this announcement.

What happens to the result of Turkey - France 1?

After a long discussion, both teams Turkey 1 and France have decided to look for a rematch date somewhere this week. In case the teams cannot agree on a rematch date that doesn't jeopardize their week 2 matches, the tie will stand.

As France and Turkey had initially agreed to reset the server after the incident happened, it would not be fair to again reset from 2-0 onwards with a gold advantage for France.

Who was FRA_Aymerald?

We are still investigating who it was, but it was very likely not the actual Aymerald. We will follow up on this once we find him, but it is complicated as it was a Russian throw-away ID. We are aware of the steam account and name of the original owner of the ID, so no need to send us. The ID is obviously banned permanently from hereon.

What lessons can we take from this?

From the admin team, we would like to apologize that this disruption could even occur. There are two important lessons to take going into the future.

[list type=decimal]
[*]When such an incident occurs, please contact any admin to help resolve the situation. If both teams agree to a decision resolving the situation, we cannot change it when it works out poorly for one team without disadvantaging the other.
[*]From now on, please change the password of the server for the duration of the official match. Any admin and referee will do this for you when assigned, but we do not possess enough referees to arbiter all matches. As such, the captains are from hereon advised to also adopt this practice to avoid something similar happening to your matches. For both streamers and teams, we obviously advise to not share the changed password with anyone other than team members and co-casters.

Addition to the admin team

We have decided to invite Tardet to our admin team and he kindly accepted the offer. We are looking forward to work with him.

Post Week 1 Announcements

It has been an exciting start to the tournament with both high and low points, but overall an abundance of exciting matches. We have a few things we would like to communicate with you, so please give this announcement a read.

More streamers and referees wanted!

While we are happy that 3 exciting matches were streamed last week, there are a few that were not streamed as well. We were also lacking in referees, which in part allowed the FRA_Aymerald situation to occur and escalate. In an ideal world, we would be able to stream and referee every match played. While this might not necessarily be achievable, if anyone else is willing to lend us his time and effort in refereeing or streaming, we would be incredibly grateful. We are in possession of a version of the streamer mod and can help any prospective streamers with setting up his stream.

Please contact any of the administrators if you are willing to help us out.

IMPORTANT Reminder regarding the playoff stage!

After 5 weeks of the group stage, we will head into only 1 week of playoffs. In this week of playoffs, teams are expected to play 2 matches in the same week. All captains should make sure to acknowledge this and contact the administrators on time in case this is not achievable for your team after you reached the playoffs.

Practical Issues

A few reminders for the match next week.
  • Make sure to change the password before starting your official match and communicating this between team captains, referees, admins, and streamers.
  • If you do not think you can manage to schedule your match before tonight, please contact the administrators asap. We can only help you if we know there is an issue.

Closing words

Overall, I hope it has been as fun a week for you as it has been for us. We are extremely grateful for the energy from the teams involved and look forward to many more exciting weeks of nations clashing!

Charlini steps down as an administrator

Following internal disagreements, Charlini has decided to step down from the admin position. We want to stress out that there is no bad blood between Charlini and the rest of the team, simply a divergence of opinion related to certain matters which made it hard for both sides to continue working together. We wish the best to Charlini moving forward and thank him for the work he has done this tournament.

Shift to GMT

Dear tournament players. We apologize for the late reminder, but the countries that are implementing summertime will shift the clock back one hour tomorrow. We as tournament administrators will also shift from BST to UTC/GMT. For most matches, this means that the word BST will be changed to UTC/GMT; teams playing at 20BST will now play at 20GMT.

The match Turkey 2 - China includes two teams who do not use DST. As such, the actual time will remain the same but the time on the server booking thread will shift.

15:00 BST -> 14:00 UTC

For the following teams, one team shifts the clock back one-hour whereas the other does not. This means that scheduling will need to be checked.

  • Turkey - Germany
  • Belgium & Netherlands - NA
  • Russia & Ukraine - Poland 2
  • Romania - Argentina 3
  • Germany 2 - Argentina 1

Please let us know the time in GMT in which you will play your match.

Austria & Switzerland situation

As most of you probably noticed, the Austria & Switzerland team was unable to complete most of their match, only playing one of their five confrontations, against Russia & Ukraine. As a matter of fairness toward Russia and Ukraine, we will grant them the default win for that match, turning the result from a 12-2 to a 12-0, so that they end-up on even ground with the other teams from Group B. It might not change much in the end but considering how many teams from that group are close to each other, we do not want Russia and Ukraine to be at a disadvantage due to a slightly lesser round difference.

These changes will be reflected in the next groupstage table updated.

Arni leaves the admin team

A couple of days ago, Arni has decided to leave the administrative team of the Nations Cup, due to what looks to be a step back from Warband. While this decision caught most of us by surprise, we want to thank Arni for his involvement in the NC, once more being instrumental in setting-up the foundations of the tournament, but also helping us a lot with decisions and stepping up to the task when required. We hope to hear from him soon enough.

IMPORTANT Playoff week

While many teams are in the process of getting their final good result to secure a nice placement for the later stages, we would like to re-remind you about a few aspects of the playoffs. Please read this carefully if your team has a chance to enter the playoff stage.

The playoff stage is the only part of the tournament where teams can play up to two officials in one week, depending on their success. This involves extremely tight scheduling from all teams involved and we will actively chase team captains to uphold the following scheduling deadlines.
  • Monday 4th of November All group stage matches done.
  • Tuesday 5th of November Map picks and bans, as well as initial contact deadline for match 1.
  • Thursday 7th of November Scheduling deadline for match one. Note that if the match is not scheduled at this point, the admin team will schedule it.
  • Saturday 9th of November Deadline for match one as well as scheduling deadline for match two.
  • Monday 11th of November Deadline for match two.

We will strictly enforce this schedule and set dates for the teams whenever they fail to adhere to any of these deadlines. If a team that makes the playoffs is already aware that their team cannot follow this deadline, please contact the admin team asap. We can then still hand the playoff ticket to the highest-ranked eliminated team.

Edit: You can check the final seedings for the playoffs here.

Tomayus leaves the admin team

Tomayus initially joined the team as a spokesperson for the Turkish community and an extra hand. As his first tournament admining, he realized the amount of work it takes to run such a competition and has decided to take a step back. We would like to thank him for his contributions and his input in discussions.
