Naval Battles.

How much would you want naval battles and stuff in MM's next release? (5 being I NEED IT and 1 being

hey i had a thread on navals battles and vince shut it down  :evil:

anyway
1-i heard htat vince lost his inperation on naval battles ( though i cna be wrong)

2- no, no north amercia faction not only is north america not a country, we (as in the Canadian colonies and the US) did not have any real role in the napolionic wars (except that little spat called 1812 but dont let me get into that one)
 
The difference between your thread and this one; is that this one is giving a nice view of how well Naval Battles are wanted within the community and your's was about technical things, which is something the devs have probably already discussed internally anyway.
 
I think naval battles would be a great addition, adding a different mode to play in definitely sparks my interest.

Although the maps would have to be big, and I don't see them being very fun to play with in public servers(lots of fighting for control of the ship!).
 
Yeah. It wouldnt work on the official at all, but I do think, as an event, people would kill to get a spot in the first few days after the release (If it ever will be released)

You just have to class script it.
Have a Captain/Admiral class that is able to drive it.
 
If there's naval battle, there has to be a Pirate faction. Doesn't have to be historical. Just want parrots on my shoulders YARRRRR!

I believe they're called "Russia" at the moment. I mean, their leader has an eyepatch. Doesn't get more pirate than that.

Would much rather it be a "privateers" ... you wouldn't get that many pirates harassing naval vessels at all ... let alone having the capabilities to even attempt such a thing (Mainly because they chose small yachts and sloops, ships that could chase and board with rather than outgun, and if a battleship got its broadside to a ship that size ... owch is all i'd say), and most of these privateers would of been told to go for merchant vessels of a particular country, rather than trying to take on a heavily armed battle ship even a smaller frigate ... because those kinds of ships would also carry marines, those trained to fight in close quaters, rather than the smaller merchant vessels who couldn't afford to carry that many crew to maximize profit.

By Battleship I didn't mean a first rate lol, for one its too much effort, your more looking at sloops, maybe with 4 cannons, or 6. And maybe bigger sloops. I wouldn't mind seeing naval battles as long as everything was moddled right, and atleast well though through so that when moving you don't glitch around or suddenly get propelled from the ship when trying to load cannon, also with the cannons your looking at a new loading systems otherwise you'd have to point it then move it to the side to load it ... afterall you don't want it sat too far back so that it dosn't hit your own ship before the enemies.
 
Thats still a lot of work for a computer cannons in small numbers don't affect my comp much but the ship is gonna add a lot of lag and then with 8-12 cannons and 40-60 marines and sailors on map at least thats gonna be hard work for a normal computer

Not really ... I don't have the best computer in the world let alone a good one but never had problems with anything that would sap it to death, such as persistant world with 150 players, the amount of items, and bits a peices in that, on a nothing but sailing map with nothing but water and 2 ships maybe even four I would Highly doubt graphical lag would be an issue at all if you jsut optimised yourself a little for speed rather than going graphical nuts (Honestly if your playing a game and loving it for just its graphics more than gameplay I would be ashamed) ... I honestly would not see a problem at all.
 
How would the ship give you loads of lag?
Unless it's made from like 30000 scene props...

I mean, there are no trees on the map or anything. Just boats, cannons and marines.

I'm sure a larger ship than a sloop is possible, and if members of the community can build their own ship(which I have played on) then it shouldn't be too huge of a task to get the thing moving, which I believe Vincenzo has already managed doing. Having a sloop with only about 30 deckhands doesn't seem very much like a naval battle, assuming that neither ship is ever boarded. If anyone remembers a the 'brig' from ETW, that had about 20 cannons on it I think? And with that, you'd still have plenty of room for marines and repairmen. It isn't that it's a bad thing if there are a lot of cannons on a ship, but that too few would hinder a lot of people's desire to operate them, I think, only having 6 people be gunners out of a 20 person crew.

That's just my 2¢ on it lol. I know there are a few flaws here and there in the idea, but ultimately bigger ships than a sloop I think are favored, and possible.
