Some of the so called "glitches" that I am sure the ENL map pack fixes are not glitches at all, and are some of the best places on maps to use. Silly euros thinking their map fixes are so good.

Surely the fact that somewhere is good doesn't make it exempt from being a glitch. Infact if all the glitches were useless then glitching wouldn't be a problem at all. It would just be a case of fixing the bugs.

Also, can you be more specific?

It's not a matter of priority, it's a matter of being comprehensive. A rule changes takes at least a week before it's pushed through and goes into play. It's easier for everyone if changes are made in larger batches rather than individual changes every few days. Besides, we've already had accusations of poor sportsmanship in the ladder.

Anyway, if you're going to start stamping out punishments for glitches, might it be worth laying out some definitions? Yes it might.

I agree, but as I've said many times this ladder isn't about me forcing my will on everyone. Ladder admins need to find consensus or compromise, and so far on the matter of specific glitches we haven't. We put out the guideline "when in doubt, rule it out" for now and clarified the use of the two most common "glitches" (nord town carts and some village linens). We're working on it. :wink:

You forgot a closing parentheses. :razz: I'm always up for testing out new maps. There's nothing in the rules that says new maps cannot be added to the pool. Again, ladder admin consensus. There are a few custom maps that are fun to play in a pub but aren't worth scrimming on.

On that note, lust, I'll be taking your list (below) and sending it to the ladder admins so that hopefully all the spots listed will be clarified before December 16th.

Nord Town

  • Using the carts to get onto rooves.
  • Getting under the walkway at low spawn.
  • Trick jumping from the catwalk to the roof of the house at the U shape, at fort spawn.
  • Jumping off the catwalk at fortspawn and taking 0 damage.
  • Having to jump up the steps, onto the wall.
  • Getting inside various things. #needs verification
  • Jumping onto the roof near the wall.
  • Jumping on to the roof, at 2nd spawn, from the palisades on the catwalks.



Port Assault

  • Using broken beams to glitch onto blocked parts of certain rooves.
  • Sliding off the stable (by the wall), if you don't jump onto it.
  • Jumping from the ladder, connecting the houses, to the roof of the smaller house.
  • Getting stuck at the top of the ladder in the middle house.
  • Getting out of the map.



Village

  • Clothlines to get onto middle rooves.
  • Getting on top of the beams above towers.
  • Jumping on the cloths above the pillowed area.
  • Using a horse to reach other areas, from the roof with 2 ladders.
  • Falling down the gap, behind the Barn.
  • Getting stuck on the straw house, at front rooves.
  • Jumping to the perimeter wall, from the back roof with the wooden stairs and ladder and the balcony that overlooks the flag position.
  • Leapfrogging over teammates, to get to higher, adjacent wall segments.
  • Accessing a cloth patterned awning, near the "alleys" flag spawn.



Ruins

I derped on the rule change. I forgot to mention that warnings against teams as a whole will carry over to their next match, but will be removed after completion of their next challenge. This is to say that a team may receive 2 warnings in one match, complete it, and may receive one more in their next immediate match. This third warning counts as a third offense, and will result in forfeiture. If the second match is completed without incident, then all warnings are removed. I'm editing that in to the change now.

Also made changes to the LES roster, removing Zero and Sheepskin Seatcovers per captain's request.
 
Would love to have the ENL map pack. Last night, Deafening got stuck in that damn ladder bug on Port Assualt. Thankfully, we had enough guys alive at the time to make up for it, but if it had been a 2 v 2, or a 3 v 3, things would've been really bad. If the ENL pack gets rid of **** like that, I'm all for it.

The problems with running custom map packs (in my eyes) are logistics, verification, and interpretation of glitches.

Every server would need to have these maps in their rotation, and some server owners are more willing to install the maps than others. Some server owners are also much more easily contacted than others. Those server owners that are particularly difficult to reach might be running the best suited server for two teams. This creates another cause for conflict between teams.

It could also be difficult to tell which version of the map you're on. You would need to deliberately test specific areas on each map to determine if it was lust's "fixed" version or the native version. I can easily see disputes being raised about whether or not the correct version of a map was used, and I can also imagine the ill will I'd quickly get from the community by saying "screenshots or gtfo." :neutral:

Then there's the interpretation of what actually is and isn't broken. Lust already brought up one of the biggest issues here: the linens hanging around Village. I'm of the opinion that the linens over the cushions at the wall (near the portcullis tower) are legitimate spots, while the other linens around the map are exceptionally difficult to reach and thus more likely glitches. The broken walls around Ruins are another thing I consider not to be glitches, just tricky jumps, and they don't really convey much of an advantage considering there is no cover from ranged troops on top of them. For Nord Town, it's my opinion that the carts need to both be blocked off or both remain open, as they both provide entrance to areas that otherwise have only one entrance. Removing access to one makes that spawn area arbitrarily more advantageous.

I would allow them if the ladder admins agreed to play them, but I won't just throw them in willy-nilly.

We had Carl get stuck in a similar spot during one round. The glitch had him stuck at the top of the ladder, but moving around unclipped--through the air/ through people. I thought it was pretty funny-- some of the opposing team tried to turn and attack him, but he just vanished back to where he was stuck.

Aye, the ones int he ENL pack already have a nice bit of feedback as well. Lust could give you a summary them (or you can visit the thread in the ENL subforum).

In a LISPer, an unmatched parenthesis creates sexual tension (which we already had to deal with in this tourney). So, without further ado:

I am fine with most of the fixes, the only ones I have any issue with are the clothesline ones in village. Obvious part of map design is obvious. been using them clotheslines since beta. Also, the carts on nord town are fine as well. As a member of the Ra team who doesn't actually get a say in this at all, I vote no to the ENL and I will discourage the Ra server owner from putting it on the server if y'all do decide to use it.

I know you guys have different ideas and conventions about glitches. Fair enough if you think that's not a glitch and I don't mind the game being played differently but it's quite clearly not intentional.

If you're familiar with mapping, you can see how objects and invisible barriers are placed and it's obvious what is intentional and what isn't. Most of the time there are clear indicators (for example the small ladder which goes from the catwalks to the adjacent roof, at lower spawn).

Evidence:

Here you can see where the devs placed an invisible wall which, had the roof been intended to be accessible, would not exist.

That alone is evidence enough that the roof wasn't intended for use, though there are lots of other indicators which are very clear, if you look at the map in edit mode.

I made the glitch free maps by sticking to the implicit guidelines of the developers in almost all cases (there are one or two exceptions, which are potential uncertainties).

And even if you don't buy into the developer's intentions argument, then I'd ask you if you think the top of the roof that it gives you access to is in any way appropriate for competitive gameplay. I mean seriously... you walk up it and slow to a halt, then have to do some kind of weird buggy jump to get onto the very top beam. Once you're there, you have access to areas which are totally cut off (in Native) and a ridiculous vantage point to shoot from. The idea that it isn't a glitch is frankly ridiculous.

As for the cloths... well I put this together just now:

As you can see, just by standing in one position you can block someone indefinitely. This isn't the kind of crap that can be happening in competitive matches.

Now you could argue that the first cloths could be accessed, while the second cloths should be cut off. And that's fair-ish. Atlhough personally I think the idea of walking around and fighting on a cloth sheet is pretty stupid. Maybe it is an obvious part of the map design or maybe the developers didn't really think about it that much. I suspect the latter and really it's just an awkward area that causes easily avoidable problems.
 
I do believe I updated the BkS v CRAP scores. One could look at the ladder to find out.

Either it went completely unreported, or the ladder is up to date. 12 wins, 12 losses overall.

We know for a fact that CRAP has completed 4 challenges thus far. They have 2 losses, 2 wins. We also know for a fact that BkS has faced BAD twice and LES twice, and has a victory over CRAP. Total of 5. The numbers all make sense. If I updated the match wins/losses, I know for certain that I updated the rounds as well.
