No screenshot for 4th quarter, score was 1-0, Grandpaws can confirm. GG, Grandpaws. Swadian RP strat is still brutal.

If you use a ethernet cable instead of wireless you should get about 20 less ping

You might already be doing this though

http://www.speedtest.net/

You can use that to determine if your getting speeds with what your ISP promised

Also you should reset your modem every week or so

It can build up lag after being on for a long period of time

Your wireless adapter and/or router would have to be a piece of **** to make that big of a difference.

It still helps a lot though to have it wired.

Without polluting Marnid's thread with tons of "Well, I tried...." stuff, suffice to say that my connection is hardwired, I've already verified all of the cabling, speed (60mbs d/l, 6mbs u/l), and computer issues.  The problem is literally only on Warband.  On a pingtest to a Chicago server, I get 78 ping (not as good as it used to be, but good enough).  As you can see from the screenshots yesterday, I was playing with 103, with spikes up to 125.  Seems to be a warband specific issue, and I've exhausted all of my ideas.

I have something I'd like to share with you folks about ye olde river rocks and cliffs. We stumbled across this perfect specimen in the wK vs. Grandpaws match on Monday, after many accidental map changes and random mountain ranges. This clearly shows what is and is not acceptable for rivers.

I may have missed it but what is the reasoning behind not allowing that?

The cliff texture is only displayed on particularly steep inclines on randomly generated maps. The purpose of the rule regarding cliff textures is to avoid map rolls with excessively steep terrain. The idea is that teams choose random plains/steppe with the expectation of a relatively flat, open map. Therefore, if a team uses its 3 re-roll attempts for a preferred seed, the teams won't be stuck with a mountainous map. Furthermore, teams cannot deliberately pick a mountainous map when they choose random plains/steppe.

Whats wrong with deliberately choosing mountainous or hilly maps?

I mean yea they obviously tend to be archer friendly but some of the greatest battles of all time were fought in valleys and on top of hills

Kind of agree with John. I'm sure most teams pick plains/steppe with the expectation of a flat map, but what's to stop a team from picking plains/steppe with the expectation of a mountainous map, causing a range/inf heavy battle?

Should be up to the team who chose plains in the first place, imo.

It's intended to ensure both teams get similar terrain with both factions, before and after the swap. Obviously, some factions would be at an advantage in hilly terrain yet at a disadvantage on a flat map. When one team gets to decide rerolls, what's to stop them from gaming the system to get flat maps when it suits them, and mountains when it screws their opponent? When there are limits on how hilly a map can be, it ensures a predictable, more balanced match for both sides.

As it is, the team that chooses plains gets to decide rerolls. That's why there's an issue in the first place, but taking that option away from them would nullify the point of defenders picking the map.

1-3 standard plains maps.  Been said before, feel it should be brought back up.

Even more custom maps to be installed on servers, and I don't feel I can force that on anyone. Their servers, their choice. I, for one, want to avoid the inevitable "we chose this map but they didn't have it on their server" drama that would come with more custom maps.

Then why not have the team specify if they want a hilly or flat plains when choosing their map?

Not trying to fix a problem just trying to bring out more options

Atm its:

Flat plains are acceptable

Hilly or mountainous plains are banned

Both options should be available for use

But with this included>

Theres not an issue then

Sure there is. How do you objectively define what is and is not a "hilly" plains map? The cliff texture is an indication that the map isn't flat enough, which serves as a lower limit, but what's the upper limit? Who wants to play on a map where one team has a massive, 100m sheer cliff and the other team starts in flat plains? These maps do appear, and while that cliff does have the cliff texture, does it really fit the criteria for a "hilly" map? I think not. It's more of a mountain than a hill. I can't think of any empirical method of determining whether a map is too hilly, which means it's subjective, which means when one team picks a map that they think is OK and the other team disagrees, I get to hear about it for a week, and the only way to get one side to shut up is to lay down a ruling that's entirely subjective itself (which I won't do).
