Dizi tarihte "Kokain'in Kralı" olarak nam salmış Pablo Escobar'ın hikayesi ile başlamıştır. Narco kelimesinin etimolojisi İspanyolcada torbacı anlamına gelen "narcotraficante" sözcüğünün kısaltmasıdır. İronik bir şekilde bu terim torbacılar için kullanılmadan önce Amerikan narkotik ajanları için kullanılmıştır. Dizinin iki sezonu çıkmış olup 3. ve 4. sezonları içinde anlaşmaya varılmıştır.
