Greetings NW community,

Welcome to the thread for the Napoleonic Wars European Cup (NWEC) thread. The NWEC is intended as a way to bring together countrymen in a bit of national pride, very similar to the UEFA cup, albeit you can compete in this cup from your desk at home! The autumn season for the NWEC tournament is drawing near, and it's time to start sharpening those bayonets again in order to throw out the age-old enemies. Hopefully everyone who participated in the previous installment will try out for their nations again, and for new people to try out for the first time. Furthermore we hope to see alot of the major nations that were missing, such as Russia and France to sign up this time around to make it the most epic tournament yet!

nationstitle.png

No nations are signed up, yet and what nations will be signed up will be pending on the interest of people from the particular nation. So if you want to play round up some support from your fellow countrymen and sign-up.

This is the European Cup, and accordingly only European nations are eligable to sign-up. If there are any unclarities regarding this other tournament such as the UEFA cup, Eurovision song contest etc. will be used to determine how the precedent lies.

There is a possiblity to merge nations, but this is only available in exceptional cases and will be at the discretions of the organizers. Potential mergers could for instance be the Baltic Nations, Former Yugoslavia, the Vatican & Italy etc. However, everyone in Europe will be have a chanse to participate, in the sense that there will be one team multicultural that people whose nations do not have a team will be eligable to join. N.b. people whose nation has a team participating are ineligable to try-out to team multicultural.

For those of you who might be interested in a Captain-position or a Vice-captaincy for your nation, please keep in mind that it is an administrative position as well, that requires you to make sure that your team makes the deadlines (that sometimes might be quite harsh) and that people can make it to the match dates and times you set.

Please register using the following form, please include steam for the Captain&Vice-Captains:

Code:

[b]Captain:[/b]
[b]Vice-Captain 1:[/b]
[b]Vice-Captain 2:[/b]

The deadline for sign-ups is 29.9

rulestitle.png

Like all tournaments and games some ground rules are required these following ones are used for the current tournament:

1.1 Each nation is to have one team.

1.2 Each nation is allowed a maximum of 16 people on their team.

1.3 Nations are in charge of picking their own teams.

1.4 The organizers retain the right to intervene in case of malpractices on behalf of a national captain.

1.5 Only persons who hold citizenship (originate from) the country are eligable to play for the nation. (Individual exceptions may be granted).

1.6 People who have not played a single match for their nation may be replaced in the roster.

2.1 The tournament has a pool stage and an elimination stage. The winners and second place teams will progress from the groups to the quarter finals after which it will be played in a single elimination fashion.

2.2 Every victory in the pool stage will award your nation 3 points. Every draw in the pool stage will award your nation 1 point. (In the case of a draw points-wise individual rounds won will be used as a tie-breaker, and if rounds won also would result in a draw rounds lost will be used as a tie-breaker, if this also fails to give a winner 9 additional rounds will be played between the drawing nations.)

2.3 Matches are to be scheduled between team captains, and a referee is to be informed at least 24 hours (a day) in advance. (A referee is either one of the organizers, or someone that the organizers approve as a referee)

2.4 Each team is to have 8 players on the server at the time the match is going to begin

2.5 Each match has 20 rounds to be played, team with most rounds won will win the match. In case of a draw in the knock-out stage an additional round will be added. (Matches will stop after one team reaches 11 rounds won, so only in the case of both teams scoring 10 and 10 will all rounds be played)

2.6 Only people on the team roster are to be used in the matches.

3.1 Matches are fought 8 versus 8

3.2 No shooting.

3.3 Only normal line infantry rankers are to be used (i.e. no guards or skirmishers).

3.4 Only bayonets are to be used.

3.5 No delaying.

4.1 BEHAVE!

4.2 Pay attention to the admin messages.

4.3 Accept defeat/victory gracefully.

4.4 Be respectful.

5.1 Common sense is to be used.

5.2 Anything not specifically mentioned may be enacted at the organisers discretion (we cannot cover every eventuallity and as such some stuff will have to be made up along the way).

5.3 The severity of an infraction and as such the degree of the punishment will be up to the referee/organizers to decide.

SponsorsTitle.png

Redthornlogo.png

Redthorn Studios have kindly offered to sponsor the tournament with some prizes for the team that places first. If you want to know more about Redthorn Studios and their project please check out their steam page: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/redthorn-studios .

playerawardstitle.png

The prize for the team finishing in the first place is donated by Redthorn Studios, and will be the following:
  - Exclusive Preview access to the Development of their new Project
  - Guaranteed access to their first large-scale testing session
  - The opportunity to ask at least one of the Dev team for details about the Project

(Note from Hekko, an NDA is almost certainly a condition when accpeting the first place prizes)

There will be a few awards to those individuals who in some way or form distinguish themselves while playing in the NWEC. This may be subject to a bit of change, especially the names, and more ones might be added. You also need to have competed in atleast two matches to be eligable to get an award of this nature.

Golden Bayonet - Will be awarded to the player with the most kills.

Golden Musket - Will be awarded to the player with highest K/D.

Pincuchion - Will be awarded to the player with the most deaths.

mapserverstitle.png

We will be employing either a specialised Groupfighting tournament map, or a map from the groupfighting server that we have in mind in case nothing can be tailormade to our specifications. More info will follow.

A big thanks to Evanovic for indefatigably providing me with pictures and graphics to use, and making the petty changes I always ask him to make!

Clarified how the pool system will work now that we know the number of teams.

When joining matches, please use the name that you have been signed up with in the roster to facillitate the statistical parts done by me, so if you are not signed with your historical name, do not use your historical name (yes I am talking to you 91st & 92nd people  ), thank you!

If you wish to use the 15e server, please try to schedule your matches at 19.00 CEST rather than 20.00 CEST, because the latter time is the standard 15e linebattle time for the 15e.

Spectators are welcome to the matches, but they are to stay spectators for the duration of the match.

is this first come first serve. i think that each country participating should hold a trial stage to get the best fighters as i feel admins are going to be the ones getting the places. although this could be time consuming i still think its a good idea

There are three main reasons why we are not doing this:

1) Nations do not like to have their selection process tampered with; i.e. they percieve that the selection process becomes unfair if the organisers poke around too much in it.

2) It would take eons to actually work out suitable teams for all nations in Europe, so it's quite simply more efficient to have the nations do it themselves.

3) I have no idea of who's good and who isn't in the Spanish community for instance, and as such it would be hard for me to even know where to begin with some nations, so the organisers themselves might not be that efficient or fairer either.

However, this does not mean that it's first-come, nations should do it based on merit, and for the bigger nations half the fun should be the national try-outs!

Any rough estimate as in when this will be? Last time I missed it, because of my summer vacation plans and I hope it won't be during my fall break.

Matches will start from the 1st of October and probably carry on well into November

maybe not individual fighters but teams in that nation fight it out for a place

Sure, im up for that sid, im sure the rest of "my group" would attend it as well, I think we should do it ASAP.

I am really looking foward to this and hope that this time I can participate (if I am nominated at all :3).
