Napoleonic Wars Discussion

Why is there even a poll? Just change it. We don't need a thread for historical discussions inside a historical discussion board.

But, that's like, awesome.

We can discuss what we're discussing, in a thread within a thread within a board, all with the same vague name!

Even better yet; the OP can change the title every couple of days according to polls, so that none of the posts make any sense at all.  We can go from "understanding the doctrine of the British Army in 1807" to "Horses and their uses during the Napoleonic Wars" followed by, "Which is tougher?  Ninja with nanigata vs. Grenadier with Bayonet".

I am already loving this idea; I will never have to go anywhere else*.

I mean, if redundancy is a good thing for a tank, surely it's a good idea for historical discussion

Bit hard, 8-8. I did a poll, because it's the democracy.

Taleworlds is not a democracy. Long live the tyranny of our glorious dictators.

I'm sorry, the last option was too tempting

Also, I seem to remember that at the Battle of Wagram, an Italian Division was led by the descendant of an exiled Scottish noble. Was this actually true, or have I got my facts confused?

If they were part of MacDonalds corps, then they were.

What if Napoleon didn't invade Russia? Would many countries leave the continental blockade, and maybe even, declare war agaisnt France? Or would UK see his end by the Veteran French army?

I think Vodka exports would have quadrupled and Napoleon and King George would have gotten drunk together, become great friends and end the Napoleonic wars with a big party.

But seriously France would have stayed the dominant power in Europe for some time.

Good joke

Yes, I agree France would stay dominant, but and France and UK?? I think France would need to prevent anymore countries from leaving the Continental Blockade or prepare their army to rebellions. Very hard to know what would possibly happens.

It would have been one big game of sitting duck-ness.

If the Tsar had kept to the to continental system, I think Napoleon would have moved this forces to Spain to end the war there for once and for all. Early 1812 was a real tiebreaker for the peninsular war, and an extra 200.000 troops, especially under Napoleon, would have easily turned the tide in favour of France.

True. But I want to know about UK. Do someone know what would happen to them? I want to see Napoleon crush them . Joke. I don't like how Napoleon raided and abused from population. But he did very good transformations. Saw it in "Life Under Napoleon".

Well their forces in Spain probably would have been crushed, and if the Continental Blockade had been kept up, the economy probably would have collapsed and Canada may have been lost to the Americans.

Hmmm. Maybe Napoleon would made a ceasefire with UK, finish the Continental Blockade. What would happen? France could win a more strong economy, upgrade the army, and even, defeat UK?

If the French didn't invade Russia, Russia would have invaded Poland. The reason Napoleon decided to invade in the first place was because of Russia's negotiations with Britain and Sweden and their gathering of an army to retake the Duchy of Warsaw, which the Russians considered rightfully theirs. Perhaps allowing Russia to make the first move would have been the better idea, but that war was occurring no matter what.

In short, Napoleon never had a chance to send the otherwise Russia-bound troops to the Peninsula.

Napoleon attempt to make peace with the UK several times, but they constantly refused. Even with a crippled economy, they were so opposed to the idea of the Bourbons not being restored I think it's unlikely they'd agree to peace.

So, the only way to prevent French Empire from it's doom was to win the Battle of Waterloo??

Also, I am very happy you posted on my thread  You are a genius at history.

Even if they won at Waterloo, the French would have had a hell of a fight ahead of them what with the armies of Russia and Austria already on their way. He'd have to repeat Austerlitz.

I can't help but feel if they had won that war, though, it would have established a fairly permanent peace.
