this has been there for a while, i wouldn't assume anything because as mentioned above, warband shipped with that also.

Considering they make moddability important part of development and, as others said, they already went through it with Warband, I wouldn't be surprised if they were like 'sure, put in some rudimentary firearms' so that community will have easier time putting them in. Someone check if they put magic in as well

Not necesarily a nw dlc. Flintlock pistol was present both in mount&blade and mount&blade warband as a base for gunpowder mods, to ease up the process. Thinking outside of borders i say
