i know its been mentioned in some posts but not really...

Would it be hard to implement in the game?

Would it Be worthwhile?

Would it make it more immersive?

Yes, a random name generator could be useful. I would also like to have an easy in-game way of editing the names of all or most people, places, and things.

(P.S. I was going to suggest the Name Game http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1504&highlight=name+game as a way to start generating names but it may not be appropriate.)

but doing it yourself could seem pretty anoying after awhile since your always lose a couple troops and buy some new ones.. id feel kinda bored thinking of names all the time... but it would be better than nothing

Sure, I didn't say it was better than a random name generator but it does have the advantage of allowing you to also name stuff as you will. It's not an either/or situation, we could have both. Names are easy for me in any case, I'll just call them after forum members or college friends or characters from some book. Pre-generated names are OK, but I'd still like to change it if it came up with names like "JStrange" or "SonofBorcha"

haha yea but id be naming people aa and little vaiger guy.....after i used up my 200th name...

While not a solution to in-game name generation, those who would like some outside assistance coming up with names might take a look at EBoN.

I like the idea a lot, but it wouldn't exactly be easy. To make it work right, you'd have to match the right surnames with the right family names, AND match the name with the type of unit.

For instance, it would make absolutly no sense for a Sea Raider to have a name like "Roger Bywater" -but that name would *work* for a mercinary in Zendar, or maybe a swabian. "Drogo son of Benta" is a name that obviously corresponds to the Khergit raiders, Ulfmaki Hrolfson is Sea Raider (maybe Vaeger) and someone with a name like Nikoli Renduski would need to be Vaegir.

Even more than that, you can't have a peasant with a Noble's name! You can't let someone named Bertrand or Godfreid or Roland be a peasant, nor can you let a Wat, Rickon or Cath be noble.

So yes, I love the idea. But it would take a lot of work.

Really? I admit I only anticipated a rudimentary ability to have some plausible names generated along with the possibility of editing that name.

If people are concerned they're going to have to tediously come up with a name for every freakin' new guy they recruit, or make sure surnames match with unit type and faction culture and whathaveyou then screw it. There's no good idea that can't be exaggerated into a complicated bore.

Seriously, I thought a name generator and in-game name editing one of the least controversial of suggestions.

you dont need random names everytime you play jsut for your recruiting i dont think it be that hard since you dont recruit nobles usually you recruit peasents... also theenemys you fight dont need names... it could be added but not needed...

There are lists of names on the internet. Just take em and give em randomly to the player every time (s)he presses "generate".

http://www.babynames.com/ Babies don't need em. So steal them from 'em!

Hmmm. Hnnttt. Arrrrnnnnn..... Ahha!

Could we have a name generator based on a database of names that we can populate with names ourselves (say in a simple windows program similar to the dictionary/thesaurus in word, or a program's help function's index.... go to minesweeper>help>index and see what I mean!)?

Six categoriess: Vaegirs, Swadians, bandits, noble bandits, Khergits, Zendars

Three fields for each faction: first name, surname and rank(if applicable). Fill in as many names as you can think of, maybe even a few people you know in real life. Any names sound stupid its your fault coz you thought of them. We could even share names on the forum if anyone can actually think of any authentic sounding names like "Marnid" or "Borcha".

Even if its not in the game maybe someone has the modding skills and the will to do this?

well i would do a mod if i had modding skills what so ever... maybe make a request in the mod section
