General Information
Romani is based on the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War. We represent not only the Roman military, but the Roman people and the Roman senate. We attempt to create a historically accurate recreation of the Roman Republic as much as we can, with a complex ranking, housing, political, and economic system. We offer positions in both civilian and military spheres, and we hope to gather as many people as we possibly can to provide the most immersive experience one can hope for in Rome.

Military Ranks

Velite
The velite was most often a poor Roman citizen, young and inexperienced, and often incapable of affording heavier weapons or armor. A foot skirmisher armed with several pilae, either a pectoral or a chiton, and a small round shield, the velite is often best suited for quick missile-based attacks on enemy infantry.

The Hastatus was also a Roman citizen, but one who could afford a sword, scutum, pilae, as well as light armor and a helmet. The Hastatus was also a young man, and typically came from a landowning family. He was expected to tire and weaken the enemy prior to engagement by the Princeps.

Very wealthy, respected, and experienced, the triarius was geared in a lorica hamata, an etrusco corinthian helmet, and held a hasta spear as well as a gladius.

Equite
The equite was a nobleman, a landowner, and a highly priviledged Roman citizen. He was a man rich enough to buy his own horse and the heavy armor that protected him. The equites came from some of the most influential and powerful families in Rome as well. Due to their small numbers, they did not play a great role in combat. The Romans often relied on cavalry from other nations and client states rather than their own people.

Proletarii
