My unanswered questions

1) Any reason to give more than a single piece of land to a lord? I know that they will garrison castles and cities and that they will lose relation if you don't give them anything. However, would there be any benefit to giving them a castle and a fief? Mainly I am worried about this since I couldn't redistribute lands at a later time.

2) If you recruit the "other" hero party members whom you don't use in your party, and immediately turn them into lords, would there be any problems?

3) If you recruit lords who don't like each other, will there be long lasting problems?

4) How do you train your heroes? I've been killing bandit groups with only them, but it is taking a long time and very boring.

5) Are any village improvements worth building?
 
1) I assume by castle and a fief you regard a fief as a village. It would probably be most favorable for you to give a vassal a castle and the village associated with said castle for security purposes. If you have them spread about then it would be hard for a lord to manage and take care of his properties. Also, there are other benefits to having one castle and one fief. A castle would allow him to place extra soldiers (garrison) along with prisoners and the village would give him a decent source of income. Along with keeping him happy.

2) I wouldn't assume you'd have any "problems" as in them betraying you or the such. You wouldn't commend too much likeness from them which may cause them not to care too much about joining Campaigns though, least not a longer one.

3) I'm sure you have noticed how vassals complain about others within their factions, this is bound to happen no matter what so you should deal with it the best you can.

4) This isn't a grinding game where you level your companions. Enjoy the game and they'll level along the way.

5) Generally, no. If you have excess money then I would suggest a Mill or School. Both will help in the long run. Of course a watch tower could help a bit. Depends on your current economic status and desires.

4) If you really want to level your companions up, get the Trainer skill. Alternatively, get into a battle with bandits/looters/raiders and order your men to stay put while sending your heroes out to attack, following along to give them a hand. They're immortal, they won't die, so just keep doing that until they're all wounded, then mop up the survivors.

5) I'm personally a fan of the School (+1 Loyalty a month, I believe), a Watchtower (25% longer to raid that village) and a Messenger Post (Tells you when a village is being attacked). Anything else is just padding.
 
I'd imagine so. I know, in my experience, when you raid villages so much that the enemy lords soldiers tend to be less experienced and less troops overall compared to your factions side. I'm not sure if this is due, partly, because I usually tear up the enemy lords armies or not.

This game is either a little more complicated then the devs let on or a little less.
I'm going with a little less.

Though I love the game.
 
Well, I don't hate the game or anything. It seems like to me that after you beat enemy lords their armies are weaker and weaker. While I didn't raid villages, it could be because I was taking their land. I know that their max army size comes from their renown, which I think also raises as they win battles. I suppose their income could be making them refill their troops back up faster. Maybe even high quality troops?
 
I think I saw somewhere on the forum that the lord's income determines the quality of troops he has. Not sure if that includes the number though. If you take all their fiefs, then they have no money to support their army. Or so I think. Mind you, they don't have to train them or anything, if I'm right. They just get them according to their income.

Could be wrong though.

This would make sense as I noticed a trend, or at least I lend myself to believe so, that when I hurt income sources then the armies I face are lower tier.

I agree with this, however, I noticed a Lord in the faction I'm vassal to had no fief, but maintained a small but decent army. It could be where he'd renounced his oath previously however, and still had "money left over" from his fief in his ex-faction.
 
Lords don't have an "income", but I am pretty damn sure that they regenerate troops based on the amount and the economy level of their fiefs. More and better fiefs means faster regeneration and higher tier troops.
 
id love for a dev to explain these. So far i know that lords get 1k and kings get 2k but i dont know how feifs add to this base  amount.

Indeed, it takes forever and is boring. Easy solution is just got to modules/native and open module.ini with notepad. Just increase the number after 'hero_xp_multiplier' to your liking.

With that tweak set, try hunting down forest bandits and other easy parties with just you and companions. Still bit of a grind but atleast you'll see them improving slowly. Lairs are other good way to train up your companions as losing the battle doesn't matter, and you get loads of respawns for them to kill.
