My take on game, thus far.

I am not by any means a veteran of the game, after all i got all 3 last week. So with that said, I am laying my 2 cents down. Its my opinion and is subject to be not as you see or feel. With that said here i go:

After playing the first 2, prior to the new addition, the add-on fails to grip me like the other 2. What i mean is, there is no sense of direction or choices to make or create this in the game. You start out every time the same way. Yawn. Not only that the levels of bandits/bad guys all the way around the table is 20-30 men larger than the previous games. With out any other starting map locations, I quickly feel like a hooker. Standing on the same corner, waiting to get jumped by some larger bands of men.

With the limitations of melee combat and shield impact on the warfare at hand, you feel like your missing something. Its like the lovable part of the game was halved for powdered weapons, which to me is a disappointment, and not only that a value that really should have been enhanced and fine tuned this edition. honestly I do not like gunpowder weapons, but you seem forced to use them to make it. I think they should have greatly added to weapon variety and made more available to all branches of the tree so that we could, create our own destiny, with what we choose.

Thirdly. the quests are broken and confusing, making the head way even tougher for you to feel satisfied or like your efforts had paid off. Prices are to high for everything and why? Not like the loot drops are uber, on top of that they pay you 1/4 of what they sell them for. I mean one shot from a gun at 10-20 feet, and your dead. Even with full health or 85% health bar. The shield aspect as mentioned prior makes it useless.

I love that the Halberd and pike weapons are as they should be.

There needs to be a serious upgrade to terrain and map features to accommodate this new technology. More hiding spots or obstacles. The wagon fort is good idea, but the whole back side open to anyone is BS and defeats the purpose of a fort. There needs to be a crouch and more extensive movement options for infantry period. Not only that there needs to be greater detailed added to the attacks and defense.

The ideas are great! The outcome is poor and does not show the true foundation this series was built on.

After all some of the mods for the Mount and Blade prior are better than the addition released.

Rethink and rework the systems in place. Allow a country selection or pirate/rebel faction starts, with quest lines that are epic and lead to greater triggers campaign wise that make it more in depth and worth trying over and over.

Multiplayer seems okay, but the game overall is a 3-4 on a 10 point scale.

Thank you for your time!

I was expecting yet another rant thread either for or against the game and the only reason I'm posting is to express my level of surprise at the even, measured response presented. So, thanks for that.

It is interesting to see the take of someone new to the franchise measuring the packaged offerings against one another like this, too. I appreciated your effort...and hope it gets received in kind.

First off, I'll have to disagree (if I read correctly) that the bandit groups are too large.  Starting out, you are quick enough to outrun them.  With proper troop management and mediocre fighting on your part, you can easily defeat the majority of enemies you run into, barring you get hit by an actual army.  Making them or having them smaller would be pitiful and there'd be no challenge at all to them.

You don't have to use blackpowder weapons, but you do have to adapt to them.  Adapt or die, one might say.  You cannot play this game like you did in the other two, or you and your men will die quickly.  You can use bows; you can use swords.  You can use whatever you want, but you have to use them in a different manner.

Get some mediocre armour to start out with.  I bought the half-armour thing, and it helped me out alright until I get a bit of money to get an ok chest and found a helm.  I can't take hit after hit after hit from musketeers, but I'm not suppose to.  And if they did less damage it would make them pointless to use, because the enemy would immediately absorb that first shot (if they are armoured) and commence to beating your ass while you reload.  Believe me, the armour helps.  That being said, things are expensive to an extent.  The better weapons, you're damn right they're expensive, and should be, but they aren't so expensive you'll never get them, and the same goes for armour.  I raid and pillage the country side, and I can get just about any weapon/armour piece I want in less than 10 minutes or so.  You just gotta learn how to get the money; it really just comes down to what you're willing to do to make money.

I really have to agree with you about the bandit factions.  I've been wanting to start off and join a bandit faction since I played the original game, but seem reluctant to let me do so lol.

That all being said, if you don't enjoy the time period and black powder weapons, you're not going to like this game, and would be better off sticking with Warband.  If you like the time period and black powder weapons, then all it takes is a little getting use to.  Personally, I'm happy to be out of Calradia

I second yigg's comments.

It's certainly refreshing from Calradia and in a number of administrative ways of troop recruitment, dialogue, more quests, etc, it's much better than Warband and I'd like to see them implemented into Warband as well.

While still largely a fan of medieval warfare (no guns), I'm having a blast adapting and finding new strategies for my intrepid Khanate troops to form more effective regiments and tactics.

The biggest things I miss from Warband are tournaments but in this time period, there really weren't many tournaments, maybe proving rings or duels ... something like that as a minigame would be neat! Another is marriage into a noble family ... I don't know it helped immersion and being grounded in a faction, making it much more difficult to completely outright destroy a faction because your daddy-in-law is a big honco in the faction ... or oppositely, using that big honcho to strategically allocate his and your "estates" for a ripe rebellion later on ... I miss that and the courting I guess lol

So, from Warband, bring back Tourneys (in a sense, could be duels) and the entire Marriage aspect (ladies, courting, feasts, raising rep with lords, working with wife or husband for common benefit of greater renown, standing, and possible Usurpation mode of the kingdom/tsardom/khanate?

Well its nice to get positive feedback from a opinion that is constructive. You are all right in your own way.  This hit home to me:

"You just gotta learn how to get the money; it really just comes down to what you're willing to do to make money."

Because the last 2 games it was a predefined role, and now its showtime. All in all I would like a country choice option or a freelancer/pirate/rebel faction. Kind of like "My allegiance lies with the highest bidder" play style. =)

Thanks for your honesty and time to as well. I will make an attempt now to learn the game for what it is and stop trying to fill the mold of the previous 2 with it. =)
