My markets should pay me tribute!

Well this is a feature request. I think the markets in my own towns should pay me some forms of tribute, e.g. free selection of 10 weapons and armours every month! Wouldn't it be nice?

Ha ha! What? My merchants already suffer trying to offload all the loot I habitually dump on them. They can barely afford to buy all that let alone offer me any choice items they come across.

I looted a masterwork Arbalest the other night. Nobody could afford to buy it at the time, so I gave it to Vorian. The recoil practically knocked him on his arse the first time he tried it.

I got one of those last night!

Sold it for 11k. :3

There's a difference between nice and horrendous cheating. For example:

(you) "Why, hello there armor merchant! I'm here for my 10 free items!"
(merchant) "Hello, sir. Take a look around."
(you) "Hmmm... ooooo, I like this 200k denar Lordly Lordly Plate Armor!"
(merchant, under his breath) "oh god damnit why the hell didn't I hide that"

It's "nice"!

This is horrible:

(you) "Hand me all your money and merchandise now or I'll have your arse on a pike!"
(merchant) " ........ "

I still say it's far more fun to loot such things. I never buy my companions anything, I just loot stuff and give them the best items. Aragorn is currently struggling around in thick banded armour with a tempered longsword, thick knightly shield, siege crossbow, plated gauntlets, DK helmet and DK boots. All except the crossbow were looted.  Some of the trees move faster than he does.

Did you seriously just try to argue the fact that getting a 200,000 denar item for free isn't cheating? Is that even possible?

No. I'm saying..... it's my towns, so the merchants there are under my rule! Why can't I extort some tribute from them just like what we do from peasants?

Maybe 1 item every month, at most. To make it fairer. 10-20 is miles too much.
PS it's 1 item merchantwide. So make your choice wisely
When you get it would also probably be a month after you get your first town, then the set point every month would be then, for all of your towns. (The crown would be your first free item, and if you're too dumb not to have a blacksmith, that's your fault )

Even just a flat limit of one item is cheating. Remember the 200k Lordly Lordly Plate Armor I brought up earlier? Just gold could work, but a free item just wouldn't work.

In that case, make a case limit dependant on level. Lvl1 = just 100 gold worth item, 5 1000, 15 2500, 20 5000, 25 10000, etc.

Isn't this what taxes simulate?  I can see an argument for adjusting the tax rate, but getting taxes in kind, rather than cash, seems awkward to me.

It seems more like he's suggesting an extortion thing. Like "Give me a little extra, or there might be some changes in this town you don't like. Understand?"
