Thats about 1450 some odd troops (some ran too far to see) running from 300 dark knights -.- they were fighting for a while and I set up camp to watch and it looked like it was going pretty well for the queen.. each losing 5-6 units a second.. then they all burst out and hit the bricks running  this is my first time fighting dark knights and on 81% difficulty they near 1 hit me lol I've lost 1000's of troops to them and only killed maybe 250... and they regenerate just as quick as normal troops O_O they took 90% of my land and i'm held up in my last town (tihr) with about 600 units.. tihr's defences are AMAZING luckily  they have to walk for a good 50-60 seconds being shot at constantly in a single file line before they can get close enough to get finished by zerkers and what not..

So my question is: Is there a single normal troop that can stand up to the dark knights besides knight templars (which take hours to train even 10 of em)

they destroy my most elite troops without a problem  It seems like they are meant to make you lose

tbh, its always annoyed me that once you get 100+ trained swadian nobles you steamroll every faction in the game until black knights, who in turn curb-stomp you (well with 200 cavs you can some times knock them in open combat but a siege? come on) like you were a damn fly.

Could we have some middle ground?

yeah I had 75 higher-tier knights and I was romping around smacking the **** out of parties of 150+ in less than 5 mins each.. then all 75 of em died the day the black knights showed up

I have to hit one of their infantry like 5 times hitting 60 dmg each to take one down.. and they hit me 2-3 times and i'm down -.- BS

all you need is about 60 elite ranger
and take only them
so you won't have any infatry or cavrly in the battle
[i still don't get it,i mean whay we can't pick the troops for the batlle]
now place your archer on a hill and ride to the dark archers kick them in the ass
now let them get closer to you archer
and when they get too close you gotta retreat
and then again
once i took lady laktrin with her 247 soldiers with only 80 archer in 12 battles
well they were dark ranger but still
and don't try catch them and recruit them cause that way after you have 100
dark fighters
you can take any town or win any batlle and it's get boring

I envy you.
In my games the DKs always get lost in the width due to their small number of Lords
Then they gradually die off with only the Iron Lady conquering a castle every now and then.

dude how the hell can they die off? they have parts of nord swadian khergit and rhod territory and its only been 20 days.. they took 6 of my settlements in 10 days.. and its not like I didnt put up a fight.. suno was my capitol and I had at least 500 troops there.. after suno fell I ran back to tihr stopping at every castle and collecting troops to protect tihr... so the castles went down easily enough but I didnt care as long as I kept tihr  So after falling back about 900 rhodoks came and attacked tihr lol. been a rough game  oh and to top it all off.. I just recently lost another 300 troops to the dk's  some veagirs were fighting them.. about 300 vs 300 so I thought if I joined with my 320+ troops we could get rid of some dk's.. well we killed 92  lulz

I think I might turn down the difficulty *gulp*

even 500 HUSCARLS couldn't take them on  kinda sad.. a legend dies

Just have some patience.
In my last game they took out most Rhodok Castles (which they attacked first) before everyone declared war on them. Then they took some (ex)Swadian castles to the east (conquered by me and given to some useless Jarls, bah ) and Knudarr Castle (taken from my glorious Nords by the Vaegirs).
After that they just started to decline. E.g. the Rhodoks finally managed to put a decent campaign together. They are currently on their way to retake every last on of their former fiefs. Even though the Lady manages to take some castles 'back' she is the only active DK Lord. The rest of the pack just sits in their castles or is in my prison

In my game, I play the Diplomacy card. When the DKs arrive, Calradia is completely at peace (thanks to the incredible talents of my character).
So, all factions league against the Invader.
That is a promise of HUGE battles.

Now that I come to think of it, I must say that I use a text tweak to make certain quests repeat sooner (like the "Convince two Lords to stop the war" quest, which repeats every 10 days instead of 100)...

The DK experience seems to differ from person to person.

I think it may be to do with when you summon them; my first game of NE, I left them turned off till day 300 or so, when I had conquered the Rhodoks and the Khergits apart from 2 fiefs. Then, once I summoned them they took over half the map. I'm guessing Clixer did something like this too.

In another game, they appeared on day 75 and like others have described, didn't seem to do much of anything; they'd taken a few Vaegir forts by day 350 but that was it, but I haven't persevered with that game so I don't know if they went on a wrecking spree after that.

So is there a variable at work here that determines behaviour? I'm guessing that it is just the player's relative weakness compared to the other factions at day 300, when he's likely to have taken a whole load of fiefs and maybe they're not garrisoned as efficiently as the proper factions' garrisons? Lords may not have had time to build up the garrison etc.

Anyway clixer, you will have the great pleasure out of figuring out a winning strategy against them....it only took me 600 more days to beat them back to Ichamur, their last bastion.

The amount of troops etc. Lords have is also increased as you level up.

The most fun game is to join one faction, conquer the entire world except one castle, and then summon the dark knights. Take that last castle quickly after the DK got one, and you have one big faction against them, under your Marshall leadership.

After you defeated the Dark Knights, demand their last castle and start your own faction. Make sure you have a strong army, it's you against the united rest.

I've done this before and can confrm it works, you can mix it up in some truly enormous battles..

Clixer, it is daunting the first time you meet them, but it is possible to beat them...

HAAAAA!!! Nice ^_^ I'm just trying to kill even ONE!!!! of their parties so I can recruit some dark fighters and use those to siege my ****ing suno back  but I can't even come close to killing off an entire party (

btw I had them invade at day 100 I think.. I was like level 32

Actually sieging them is easier than fighting them in the open.
I don't see where your problem is oO.
Take a whole bunch of archers and crossbows and retreat* once they're out of ammo.

*might not be the way it's supposed to be working, but hey... the DKs are a whole bunch of fighting psychos

As far as I've known, my rangers, cavaliers and king's berserkers worked fine in the open. I captured one of their lord, Gracius I think. 175 vs their 424.

Dark Knights? Bah. I take them down with nothing but Lady Knights- and actually, I do most of the work. Once you've shot/charged their archers to death (take your troops, circle round to the side to avoid the knights who will outpace the archers, then charge the archers yourself, THEN give the troops following you the order to charge. Give them a few seconds, then break off), all you need is a fast horse and a honking shedload of arrows. It's not hard, just time-consuming; hurtle around shooting up horses or anybody without a shield.

If they HAVE a shield, slow down so they can get close, keep an arrow nocked as they get really close, then shoot them as they lower the shield to strike. It's dicey, but doable.
