My computer ate my disc

Title says it all.

I put Warriors King disc into drive, and it goes in. I play the game, get bored, and try to take the disc out. My computer proceeds to make a strange noise, and then the sound of scraping. Ouch. I press the button again, and it does that again. Now, I don't care that the disc is broken, I just want to know if there is a way I can get the thing to open physically other than with a crowbar.

Are we talking about a CD-ROM drive? There should be a little hole on the lid of the drive, you just need to find something small enough to poke through and hit the release switch on the other side, and it will pop open manually.

Success. I was afraid I might damage the drive. And it hasn't ****ed my disc up. So a win-win situation.

Not everyone was a child in the 80's. Especially those of us who weren't alive yet.

Nah, generally when you get that problem it's due to the drive tray sticking somewhere (usually on the stupid plastic covering they stick on those things). It's just a question of lifting or lowering the actual tray itself to get around the obstruction.

Ideally, get the tray open and then examine the surrounding plastic closely to see if anything is touching or overlapping the tray itself. If so, should be about two minutes work with the same knife to ensure this is no longer a problem.

just in case it happens again, usually drives have a tiny hole at the front, you can use a paper clip and press it in, drive should open then even w/o power etc.

add some salade, maybe the computer will spit it out like I would

Rofl same happen to me.
I just put one CD over another one XD the CDs are burn'd now, they have red lines an scratches all over around.
Just try to trow an pencil in there,it should open...

Happened to me once too. Though I was lucky enough to hear a grinding sound and when I opened the drive, I found about four CD pieces in it.

Damn! I got all excited for nothing! At quick glance, I thought the topic title said something else entirely. Thought for a second there somebody'd finally found a use for the millions of now-defunct floppy drives.

Anyways, does the drive still work? I've had three discs break in mine so far, and it's still going.
