Muskets

I recommend that you add muskets in the game because the muskets
are great for sniping..
Muskets were introduced during the 14century(the first guns were not muskets). From the 17th to 18th century the musket was a common weapon in the armies and introduced new tactics in combat.
A musket fired small pellets with the help of gunpowder at high velocities
injuring/or killing the victim from a large distance.
There were many musket types(flintlock, blunderbass etc.) which were
used for close or ranged combat.
I think they are great because of their power and precision(if the shooter
missed he had to reload it for a long time).
I would recommend that you make the muskets more powerful than the crossbow but slower.

Welcome to the forums, Koufodin@s.

Armagan is making this game in more of a medieval style ... swords and warhorses and such.

Although if you would like a mod that would add firearms there is more than one mod that is being created that will do just that.

Ok I don't want to sound rude...

But, this game doesn't focus around gunpowder (at least that's what I know). It's not a bad suggestion though...I'm sure there are a lot of those as I speak. Just use the "Search" link at the top of page.

EDIT: I guess I'm not fast enough...who would thought this was the Wild West

I know that the OP was kidding (dear god I hope), but the irony of this post is that the arrows that are in game now are more accurate than ANY musket created until the introduction of rifling.

Dave

muskets and accurate in the same post? and did i hear Sniping? HA!
muskets were the FARTHEST thing from sniping.... hell, id rather shoot an arrow for hitting someone 100 yards away then shoot a musket.

muskets were the FARTHEST thing from accurate you will ever get. So, next time you think about muskets, Dont associate accuracy and muskets in the same sentence. Thx.

OK - now that ou have made your edit....

Before rifled muskets (first used in general warfare during the US Civil War) the standard musket was not expected to hit a target beyond about 20 to 30 yards. The only way they were effective was in VOLLEY-FIRE in which 100+ muskets were discharge simultaneously from a formation in tight ranks.

Firearms actually do go back well into the medieval period, but they only became commonplace because they were easier to make and didn't require nearly as much training as bows. This game however is not targeted at historical accuracy so while it might be fun to have hand cannons, I would guess that's a job for the modding community not something you'd see in the base game which is focused on the more traditional period weapon sets.

Right. I don't think muskets would do anything for this game. If they were accurately implemented, they would take longer to reload than a crossbow, the reticule would be the size of a barn when your skill was at 10 and they'd have the effective range of throwing rocks.

So if you could amass 30-40 musketeers, let loose when those dark knights are nigh upon you, half would fall, the remaining half would slaughter your musketeers while they reloaded

If folks wanna mod them in, go for it, but if armagan only listens to one post I ever make on this forum, hear this:

DON'T PUT GUNS IN MOUNT&BLADE!!!

(However, I'd expect them in the much anticipated sequel: Horse&Howitzer)

also he says some for long range and some for close range. It was more like some for point blank range and some that you hit prople with.

Horse&Howitzer, lol.

However... if I've got my facts straight, Armagan DID have guns, or had planned to, earlier on. I'm talking pre-.632 here, guys.

Anyways, he decided against it after that, and removed them.

Rather than guns, I think slings would be cool. A staff sling would be tight, but it would be hard to animate, I imagine. I can imagine how the reticule for a sling would work: It would get larger and smaller at a fairly rapid pace, and the goal is to hit your opponent while it's smallest.

Ther were "hand Cannons or hand Gonnes" as early as 1300
one use only. The "knechts" would use it ones in formation and then tosse it and draw ther backup weapon vitsh usely was a sword or an axe.

There were even some axe gonnes witch had an axe atached on the end of the gun.

But a musket is a compleatly diffrent thing.

=$= The animation is the problem I suppose, that's why we have throwing rocks instead.

Muskets suck for sniping! 100 English longbowmen would easily kill 100 Independence War redcoats.
Musket requires very little skill to use effectively while longbow requires a lifetime commitment. That is why bows were replaced.
But as for accuracy, only rifles were somewhat accurate and 18 century rifles took a couple of minutes to reload (you have to literaly hammer the bullet through the threads).

yeah, that's why soldiers used to line up in big rows for a battle wearing colorful suits. You just can't aim smooth bore musket balls, they weren't even as good as a modern shotgun because you could only load them with up to three lead balls and a shotgun can shoot nine big pellets at one time.

Well agree that, muskets only work when you have a line of troops carrying them, since their accuracy was worse than all of WW1's handheld pistols. (Or at least the muskets which actually had a small chance to exist during the time of M&B, which I also am not sure of)

I personally would feel that muskets in original M&B would be kind of out-of-place, however would be good if Armagan (and if I'm not mistaken he already is planning to) impliments gun support, so we would be able to mod guns (and nuclear missiles) in ::smile:

1. You call the missle support.
2. There is a bright flash.
3. you wake up 69 days later and find out that your party, enemy party and all your stuff were vaporized by the explosion.

Nah, they'd be more like the nukes in Red Alert. A little ground shake and some units will recieve minor injuries.
