Hi all,

For some reason, the music in M&B "stutters" or "skips." The normal sounds don't seem to be affected, just the music. If I play the mp3 files in winamp or windows media player it sounds just fine, and no other games have this problem.

I've also updated my sound card drivers, and reinstalled directx.

Any ideas?

sound card: Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
Athlon XP 2800+
1GB ram
NVIDIA ti4200

I have this problem, also the sound itself occasionally crackles, like a kinda radio interference sound.

I have a Soundblaster Audigy LS with the updated drivers.

Give the following a try and see if it affects it:

Click run
Type "DXDIAG" without the quotes
On the window that opens, click sound.

Firstly, check the device and driver information listed, and make sure it is displaying what it should (mainly the device listed is correct, and the driver version shows the latest version).
Underneath that you should have a hardware acceleration slider. Try moving it all the way to the left (no acceleration) and try mount and blade.

If that solves the problem, re-run dxdiag, return to the sound page and move the slider up another notch and test it again. Keep doing this until the problem returns.

I'm getting that too, not so much the stuttering, just some really low quality sound, as if it was some interference, made me turn music off. Did the dxdiag thing, nothing happenned.

BTW, here's my audio is an Intel Integrated Audio (emulated).

The music sounds perfect in an MP3 player, sucks in-game.

Device and driver information are correct. Moving the acceleration slider to the various other values (no acceleration, etc) does not fix the problem.

@ Lobos : Have you tried the Direct X Sound Acceleration? It will usually sort out most problems on integrated sound cards

@ g3 :From what I can gather there does seem to be a problem with the current Audigy EAX drivers and Direct X 9.0c. Not sure if this is whats causing the problem (I don't think M&B uses EAX)

Couple of things worth trying:

1. Check the Motherboard drivers and BIOS is up to date
2. If you have an onboard soundcard, make sure that it is turned off in the BIOS.
3. Try the Direct X sound tests. See if you get any interference or stuttering during one of those tests

A suggested fix involved changing the surround sound (I think) setting in Windows & the Creative control panel to 5.1. Not 100% sure if this will work but it may be worth a try.

FWIW I also encountered this problem in FarCry when I ran the game with sound in "compatibility mode." All other games/programs are fine.

I updated both, no change.

2. If you have an onboard soundcard, make sure that it is turned off in the BIOS.

Yeah, it's disabled in the BIOS.

3. Try the Direct X sound tests. See if you get any interference or stuttering during one of those tests

They're all fine.

I already have that set, as I have a 5.1 speaker system.

Um, how to explain this...

I accidentaly kicked the desk pretty hard (trying to recover my undies from my sister's evil man eating chihuahua). It knocked over a paper weight from a shelf on top of the desk... it fell on the PC.

And now... the music is fixed...

Does this mean my mobo isn't quite right?

@ Lobos
It sounds as if the speaker connection was a little loose. Possibly worth checking everythings firmly plugged in at the back of the PC\speakers

@g3

People have been reporting the same problem in Doom 3 and Halflife 2. Did you have problems before you updated the sound drivers?

I'm fairly certain I did, I seem to remember updating the drivers as an attempt to solve the problem.
