basically trying to play warband on XP and having the fullscreen pointer issue. messing around with game/mouse settings has pretty much yeilded the static pointer displaying midscreen changing to a flickering static pointer displaying midscreen.
As a test, I installed the game on a crappy acer aspire netbook I have. It runs XP aswell and didn't have the pointer issue. and I used the same mouse, just switched it from my desktop and plugged it into the netbook. I'd play on it, but due to resources on the netbook being rather slim, to get any type of FPS. I literally have to run XP in diagnostic mode, virtually all game video options at their lowest setting, sound disabled etc etc. and it still runs low on memory.
So I started looking at the differences in my Desktop and my netbook, (desktop is older by a few years, so the netbook has a few system files that a bit more current). They're both running the same build of XP, and while the same "version" of directx is on both machines, on the netbook some of the dll files associated with DX are later versions. Also, there are some microsoft dll's that appear on the desktop and not on the netbook. I also noticed on the netbook that the windows mouse driver mouclass.sys is a later version.
Basically I've done my homework. I've searched the forums, tried all the fixes even though most were geared toward windows 7 alot of the options appear in XP in different places. Changing displays, resolutions, mouse visibility options. everything that anyone has put forth i've tried. To no avail.
I've tried to update directx, via microsoft.com or running the installers found on most game CD's. nothing. MS.com detects the latest version and says updating is unnecessary. and installers from CD's dont update the dll files.
same thing with the mouclass mouse driver. i pulled the driver off the netbook and tried to put it on the desktop but it's a protected windows file. if i delete the old one, or copy over it, windows just restores the old version. I haven't found a credible installer/updater on the internet either if there even is one. Same goes for dx dlls.
I'm at my wits end. Nothing i've done has solved the pointer issue in fullscreen, and trying to play in windowed mode slows the game down and if i alternate between windowed/fullscreen it crashes after a few minutes.
Going to run it by a friend from school that's worked for yahoo, done some programming for google and currently works for Cisco or Sun i believe, but he's out of state and won't be back for a few days, so in the meantime if anyone has any idea's please feel free.
