Mod Realms is proud to announce a writing competition where you will have the chance to display your literary prowess and win a serial key for ‘Mount & Blade’ in the process! The serial has been generously donated by Armağan Yavuz, TaleWorlds lead developer and creator of M&B, and will unlock the full game so that you can experience it in all its glory.

To enter the contest you will have to write a short tale based on a screenshot from ‘Mount & Blade'. There is no minimum length but it should not be longer than approx. 4000 words. The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges made up of MR staff and prominent M&B modders. The competition will end June 1st at 23:59 GMT.

Cool, though you could've found a better screenshot. One with someone dying, alone, would be much more inspiring.

Perhaps I'll give it a go anyways.

There is someone dying, though not alone

I was actually looking through screenshots from mods, particularly 'Lords and Realms' and 'Roots of Yggdrasil' (your jump-shot screen caught my eye), but we ultimately decided to go with an image from the official M&B website.

So the prize is ownership of a game I already own? Doesn't make much sense to me. Most of the people on this forum also already own it.

Aw gee, thanks!

Any friends you want to give the serial to?

Im gonna try my luck on this...

Heh, such a generic screenshot :(. Still, I do my best. Really should be working on my mod though.

Any change that you could get the serial for the multiplayer expansion if you already have the native one? That would get me writing really fast :D

My thoughts exactly. Still, its just a friendly competition. Just roll with it.

I would, but not with the rubbish screenshot. The material he'll get would either be pages of gore with the thinness of plots or something that deviates so much from the picture it would not qualify.

Ugh... be nice if you had more than a couple weeks. Takes a good month to come up with a real good story (proof it, have someone else read it, etc). Took me two months to do the first part of a Star Wars fanfic story (and another month for part two). I did a number of them for fun, and even did a Pirate based one for Pirates of the Burning Sea.

I've thought about a story based on this game... but with everything else I had going on, I haven't had the time to write. I have to agree that it's silly to award a CD key for a game I own (I actually own two of). A new graphics card would be MUCH better. :P

The end date for the competition is June 1st at 23:59 GMT. That is a bit more than two weeks.

So basically you're saying that we should have a M&B themed contest without a M&B related prize?

Maybe not that, but something that`s not the essential M&B related thing everybody here but some of the noobs has. And if I really want to make a gift to somebody, I`ll simply buy them the key. Maybe some sort of unique M&B merchandise?

And if that stationary knight was getting mobbed by Vaegir missile troops, he would be off his horse before he managed to skewer anybody with his lance

To be frank, the theme isn't tied to mount and blade, sure, it's a mount and blade screenshot, but it barely has a theme, apart from violence. I agree the prize should be mount and blade related, but it's something everybody here has, and only needs one of. So in effect, you're asking people to do lots of work in too tight a timescale for a prize they already have.

Guys, this isn't from Taleworlds. Lucky enough they even got a serial key, to be honest.

Are you saying that there is something that is more closely tied to M&B than combat (violence)? Also, the story is to be inspired by the screenshot, not a description of what is happening in it. There is a lot of leeway in that.

I don't see how it could be M&B related without it being a copy of the game. There is no Mount & Blade merchandise, as far as I know, and Warband is not out yet. And if it was you would be saying that you already own it, and so do most of the people on this forum, so why would anyone need it (and that it is a silly prize).

So in effect, you're asking people to do lots of work in too tight a timescale for a prize they already have.

I am not asking anyone to do anything. Anyone is free to enter the competition. They are also free to not enter it. They will only do as much work as they wish, because they – I assume – want the prize. Whether that is for themselves or a friend is entirely up to them.

Personally, I am not sure why you're taking what is intended to be a fun competition so seriously.
