Mount & Blade : The narcotic for the new year !

G'Day Everybody.

My name is Chris, and I'm an addict.

I came to this realisation over the last few nights.

It was after the usual "Just one more encounter" routine last night, when I went to bed and realised I would have to wake up in just under 2 hours to go to work, that I realised I was hooked.

So subtly was the web of addiction spun, I didn't even see it coming. One week I was playing WoW, and enjoying it immensly (although going to bed a reasonable hours), and then I got introduced to this habit by a small editorial comment in AtomicMPC magazine.

Oh how smoothly they feed you the "It's only a demo, you can only get to lvl 6" line. How easily it was to enter the tournament arena, and then to emerge as the sun was doing the same through my bedroom window.

Now, I have cancelled WoW, bought Mount & Blade, and I am afraid I won't ever be able to get rid of these red blotches and the grainy feeling from my eyes.

I was originally hoping to write a funny thing like the latest Civanon ads with the 12 steps to recovery, but it was turning out pretty stupid.

I love this game.
Best game I have bought in an extremely long time.
My hat off, and the highest respects go to you Armagan.

aaah i know the feelin.... OH GOD ITS 3AM - I GOTTA GET SOME SLEEP
-but i want just 1 more fight with some deserters....
OH GOD, ITS 3:30 AM *collapses dribbling on desk*

no, its ACTUALLY 3am in the UK right now, why am i on my computer-
why am i AWAKE.

Hi,

My names Dread and I'm a Mount&Blade-aholic......

I discovered this little gem in the past week as well, and what an absolute ball tearer it is! All my other games now sit uselessly about the place and I've let one sub expire already.....looks like the others will also be going shortly....

Lucky its been the holiday season or I'd be in strife! Going to bed at 4:30am isn't good if you have to get up for work early......its bad enough to get woken by the kids at 8:30am......but I get to have a nap when the little one has a rest around lunchtime.....

So thanks for such an excellent game so far! I look forward to being part of the growing community for this game.

I was just like you guys a few days ago, until my PC crashed and has remained in a state of disrepair since then. Now I am having M&B withdrawl. The only positive is that I have been getting a lot more work done over the last few days.

C'mon people mount&blade is a great game but how can you live with like 3 hours of sleep.

You would be suprised how mutch time you can sleep when working.

I am a M&B addict to but i hawent ben able to gett me a real hitt for almoste a month. o_O

And i dare not start the game late in the day in case i wont be able to gett in bed.

This game is much better than WoW, to make the game perfect it should autostart with windows!

I already forget how i come to M&B it was just fate i suppose!

Heh, I even got my sis to play this game and she loves it

Heh, I made the mistake of doing that as well, now she always wants to play it when I do and shes 10...

Haha, yeah

I bought the game just one day after downloading and playing it, and that only because I downloaded it at midnight and had to get some sleep early  As soon as I awoke I went straight to the computer and ordered it
A few days later I showed it to my 2 friends, and they bought their own copies just a few hours later

There is something about this game...

And I can name you the few aspects that attracts all of us to it; for there is a shortage of those aspects in all of the games that major producers and publishers create/publish:

I think the best aspect is freedom of doing what you want when you want it, attacking who you want etc

 free roaming, non linear travelling, no predefined storylines wich forces you to (sometimes not even choose) fight for one faction
 the semi realistic medieval theme; too few games have a medieval theme, and if so, they mostly monsters and other stupid things
 "realistic" complete combat system; freedom of attacking while moving, all of the weapons in the arsenal including archery, 1H + 2H weapons, polearms etc (wich I miss in most games)
 And last but not least, MOUNTED COMBAT, wich is the one of the best aspects (if not the best) of this game
 much, much more potential from the previous points

All of these points together complete the gap in my (if not all of our) needs of gaming.

edit: spelling

Tell me about it !

I managed to stay my hand last night, and went to bed instead.
I needed it because after the last 5 days of only 2-3 hours sleep, I was falling asleep trying to get home from work !!

Great news though, since I have now caught up on some sleep, I think I'll play tonight.

Just one or two encounters.

I have also gotten one friend to buy it, and got 2 others at work whom I keep on nagging about it ! hehe

I agree with all those points on why its such a good game, but I think another important aspect is price. Long story short, I never pay for games. I've been an avid PC gamer since the early 80's and theres not much I haven't played since then. I have about 6 games I've currently got installed on my HD that I play...well...did play actively. In all those years I have actually laid out cash for: Baldurs Gate 1+2 and addons, Neverwinter Nights, Dues Ex and UFO+XCOM. Thats it. They are the only games I wanted to shell out money for.

This game though, at $20AUD is an absolute steal! Most new titles retail here for between $89 and $99AUD...and for what?? Look at the latest batches of FPS's etc....sure they look pretty but your done with them in a few hours.

Mount&Blade is $20AUD and I've already poured hour upon hour into it and its still only a bloody beta missing all the storyline content and a tonne of other features! Then add in all the fan made mods and stuff already....

This is the bargain of the decade

*AUD = Australian Dollars

yeah x-com is a sweet game, although you should probably try half life 2 though, it's definatly worth the money, and i can't even get any of it's mods to work  , but M&B is probably the deal of the decade, if not the century and it also has petential for stratergy as well as authentice medevial combat, which make's it an even better game to me because i like a bit of stratergy, oh yeah and rome total war is probably a good buy.

Sleep is useless and as such will be sacrificed in order to gain more time for Mount&Blade! Oh my poor eyes, red and burning from watching my enemies die...
well perhaps some rest wouldn't hurt

...just...one...more...encounter....
