Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Developer Blog 9 - Ethnic Instruments

Users who are viewing this thread

<p><em>Hello all! This time around we're bringing you an externally written blog, by the team working on the music for Bannerlord. There are samples from the soundtrack and some detail about what went into creating the authentic feel for the game's OST!</em></p>
<p><strong>Finn Seliger, <a href="http://www.periscopestudio.de" target="_blank">Periscope Studio</a></strong> - With the soundtrack of Mount & Blade 2 one of our main goals was to create a characteristic music piece for each faction – a kind of hymn – that should reflect the faction in terms of culture and attitude.</p></br> Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/11

All of them are cool, but I would expect Khuzait one to be a little central asianish, it doesn't sounds like steppe music at all.

"Bannerlod Dev Blog 473 - Butterflies rendering", 14th September 2132. Still no real news about the game. I keep waiting for a release date since my grandpa told me about this game long ago. My mom says I'm crazy to believe in my grand father's legends. But I still think there could be hope.

AHAHHAHAHAHAHHAH!!! You sir, deserve more likes!

I hope Bannerlord will be finished by the second half of 2016. Usually, I am very correct with my prognosis.

Aaaand, the music sounds great!

What are those likes you're talking about?

Have those composers ever heard of 'less is more'? I'd much more appreciate some subtle, ethnic sounds in the background, rather than these bombastic modern compositions with a few ethnic instruments mixed in.

I hope the rest of the game won't follow this 'throw more money at it and it'll be good' principle. Just put the effort in the right area's please, like NPC AI.

Actually it concerns only the factions' "hymns". I hope that the rest of the soundtrack will be different, and not like MTW2 soundtrack which was absolutely horrible for me (excepted the campaign map and menu music).

Khuzait music is allright but it didn't sound like to me enough nomadic too. I am saying according as the period that the game includes, i'd want to hear more lute(kopuz, saz) melody like i've shared below. Khuzait melodies are more likely comes from later periods of Turks, especially living in Anatolia.

Amazing.

I wasn't big on original M&B music. It was very evocative of old movie battle sequences.

This is exactly the sort of change I was hoping for.

After all these month, now this. Something finally, a good old blog. Good music. Is it worth the wait, no. I expected something more than a music blog. Gameplay, trailer, combat, after 3 1/2 month, I thought you guys are working together to put something great. A blog is a blog.

Whole lotta french horn in ancient empire I guess.
But I like it, because when you go overly "ethnic" you end up with stuff like this:

I've just made a video with the new music, for easily listen to these great themes

Thanks a lot, blog music won't load for me. It would be nice if you labelled them though, instead of just the pictures.

I don't mind the one that sounds like wandering around town in Legend of Zelda (2nd last in that video), but not the other ones. I tend to agree that they generally sound aimless and not all of the instruments fit. I'm sure they're doing their best though and maybe the chap who did the original M&B music is unreachable or has gone downhill. Best of luck to the team with getting music that shows off their game a bit better than these previews, not that they're terrible, but imo M&B deserves compositions that are more in tune with the game.

They should consult with this guy: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,156545.msg3762985.html#msg3762985
