Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Developer Blog 15 - Valuable Relationships

Greetings all and thanks for making your way over to our 15th Development Blog. It's been a little while since we updated the blog, but we've been hard at work on the game and we're excited to talk a little about something we've been working on recently.

Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/17

That last bit of the blog suggests to me some kind of partial release. Early access, or single player only. Surely Q4 of 2017 at the latest.

The guy who said nobody cares about quests... you're WRONG buddy. I care. I want a virtual world with characters, not just another place to engage in laggy hack and slash with kids from China. I want a game with a heartbeat and a soul thank you very much, not at all like 'For Honor'.

I'm glad quests were the focus of a blog, I just wish the blog was longer and covered more types of quests, such as diplomatic ones.

Since I'm not subscribed to pcgamer the relationships having an effect on recruiting was news to me. Screenshots were nice and it's good to see signs of life. The article wasn't substantial but people are whining far too much.

And please completely ignore the people saying do videos instead of blogs. The written word is 1000x better for giving information on anything other than "how pretty is it."

Do any of you remember when CDProjekt RED were developing The Witcher 3? It got delayed a couple times and it ended up being revealed that the reason why it took so long was because of the console versions. Key features (and graphics) being left out that were more or less promised because of the console versions.
Complex mechanics like continuing the game as your son when you die and **** like that probably won't make it into the final release and I can even imagine some of things they've talked about in the blogs changing or being left out.

If they were only working on the PC version then I'm sure it would've been released by now, this isn't an AAA game with a bunch of funding after all and the scope of the game isn't that big.
While I'm not as self-entitled as some of you are in the comments, it's still pretty disappointing that after all this time waiting for a new blog they don't talk about anything new.

The devs have repeatedly stated a console version is not being worked on, and if it ever did happen, it would only come a long time after the primary PC release.

To be fair, it is a fairly lackluster dev blog.

On the other hand, I'm also conflicted about how I should feel. The general tone of the posts here suggests that I should be cynical regarding the game's development. However, the other side of myself also leans toward not caring in the slightest.

Fellow colleagues, I require your assistance in this matter.

They denied they'd be working on a console version first, sure. They've also said they were working on the PC version first and foremost when people started getting suspicious about those articles that kept popping up about Bannerlord coming to consoles.

But that doesn't mean they're not going to be stripping features from the base game so it works on consoles, whether they release the console version later or along with the PC version. They still haven't announced a release date and they haven't directly announced there wouldn't be a console version. Most of their deniability is from 2 years ago and they haven't said anything about consoles since.

All I know is to never believe the people who speak on behalf of the developers since they're never actually told anything about what happens internally.

Yeah they better not be wasting time on console development, or strip features from PC to make console versions viable. If they're gonna do console they should do it after the PC version and water it down if need be. But keep the PC version awesome, and focus on it only until its done!

Can someone please tell me where this was ever a promised feature? I remember seeing in in a lot of "wouldn't this be awesome" conversations across the internet but can't for the life of me think of anywhere it was officially mentioned as more than a pipe dream.

at least this activity indicate to us. they are alive in taleworles and fans check site every day.
i really thinking for short of time they leave a game and its canceled.

WROOOOONG! Ever heard if the phrase "a picture paints a thousand words?" Now what if I told.you a video was actually a compilation of 30+ pictures a second, every second, for the duration of the video?

You can actually see the dynamics of the feature in action in videos, which is infinitely better than reading about it. Imagine them trying to describe sieges without a video. They're not award winning writers, the text only blog would have been something like " much catapults, many arrows! Battering ram poooow! Siege tower blokes over the wall, fight end of siege woooo!" Cool story ya know

Personally I'm just sick of wading through never ending crap to try and find any actual news regarding this product, just put out a fecking release date and stop rendering butterflies.

If it was for Combat gameplay sure. But we've already been shown that and how many different ways of watching the player kill a guy do we need to see? We know it's shaping up great. Talking about how feature are going to work however? Pictures are nice but a realtime video would add nothing to learning how crafting or interpersonal relationships, or leveling up functions. It's much faster to read and easier to look up things later. Plus since videos aren't scripted they can actually you know, proof read a written update so we avoid blathering, turns of phrase that don't make sense, repeating things, and all the other little quirks of human language.

Are you missing parts of your frontal lobe?

This blog did have info we already recieved, but it was more detailed than the PCgamer article. At least we had new information this month, hopefully the next blog will be end of April.

I think the developers would do well with an open/closed beta/alpha. It would give them a valid opinion on the game without themselves circle-jerking about "how good it's going to be when it's released."

So far it seems like a lot of missed opportunities.
