Army building should be a priority in an army building game.

The devs seem to have put that aspect of the game at the bottom of the list.
We already had a problem with safely storing troop in garrisons to train new troop due to the food problem in towns, now we have no way of efficiently training troops with the auto-resolve nerf. Which by the way was the only real way to lvl the Tactics skill.

This has dumbed down the core army building aspect to simply going around and gathering recruits and peasants rather than putting the time to build an efficient and tactical army.

We need the training fields to train troop just like in Warband or at least something equivalent.

The only way around this I'm seeing, is by only building a party of companions, and having the companion limit modded so you're able to increase the number of companions you can have with you.

My semi decently equipped companions get there arse whopped when out numbered slightly even by a few looters.Troop skills seem ****ed or something, because it seems short of armour, a lvl 1 peasant is no different from a T6 legionary

I'm still able to train troops really quickly just by auto-resolving against bandits. It's pretty tough when you first start on a new save but it's not that difficult especially once you get rolling. And as you build up in the game you'll get access to recruit higher level troops right from the settlements.

Then armor needs a serious buff.

That wasn't really my point.
My problem is why should you loose troops when auto-resolving against a group of looters that would result in no losses 100% of the time if done manually. It adds an extra drawback to an already sluggish way of training troops.

Well we are missing the skill that passively allowed our troops to gain skill, well I should say the skill is there but you don't get any XP for your troops out of leveling it.

I think that having to rely on looters to train your troops is fundamentally flawed. What we need is passive training by fixing the relevant perks for Leadership.

I actually created a mod for this (the companion-only party).
You pay a reduced fee for the companion based on their skill levels, and pay an upkeep for them as well.
It's then upto you as the player to kit them out based on their skills to improve their effectiveness.

The next step really would be to actually fix the levelling system :/

Having training grounds like in Warband would be a good help too. I used to go into training camps in Warband to get my recruits up to a basic level of training and gear without having to go around and auto-resolve. An updated version of the party camp system in Warband could be really cool too

+1 for training camps and trainer skills. It's completely unrealistic to have to genocide legions of bandits in order to grind up soldiers for a garrison. IRL virtually all combat experience would come through training.

+1 For trainer skills and Training related perks.

I have fun manually leveling my guys, Go into a fight (looters, Sea raiders, Mountain bandits) weaken them with stronger troops IE Cavalry or companions + you.

Then pull back and watch your recruits mop up. More rewarding to me that way. I personally don't get why people just Auto-resolve for Elite troops with out ever actually investing in them, but am not opposed to other leveling methods being available for said players.

It is great idea. Add this to casstles and towns and It can solve few big problems:
1) With nonstoping waves of the same lords. Becouse after recruiting they should spend some time for training troops (make them do it!)
2) With armies of lords that have 80% of pesants.
3) battles are not a pesant slaughter grind anymore

Not to mention that with the food problems in towns putting your troops in garrisons is as good as throwing them away in this state of the game.
