Knight
just have to say this, after a week of trying to play this horrible crashtastic mess, i went back to mount and blade, tail between legs.
from polls, it seems like one 4 out of 6 people is experiencing crashes with it.
so i say **** it, until they fix the bugs, i'll delve into mount and blade modding.

So a medieval action RPG is better than a Horse and Musket wargame ja?
Maybe we should get someone to make a horse and musket for M&B to make the comparison a bit fairer. Perhaps we could get Swa-*bang**splat*

 @ Cymro

Kind of like saying you prefer Crysis over dawn of war 2. not the same thing is it?

But I know where you're coming from, i haven't had the urge at all to buy another medievil game since i bought Mount&Blade. And indeed i haven't, nor probably will until 2 comes out. So you feel kinda silly when you do buy another game and quickly realise you wasted your money since this new one doesn't hold your attention for 1% as long and cost thrice as much. worse when you can't even play the bastard because of bugs.

I like both games But I think empire is the least of the Totel war seres.
Most of empire totle war stablity problem comes from the fact you have run threw steam that means all the game files are .pack so thay first have to be decompresed then ran veary taxing on your cpu.

You got it wrong

Mount&Blade > Any other single player game.

When multi comes out:

Mount&Blade > Any game.

And yes, Empire is sucking for a while. Can't even get the friggen demo to work.

Mount&Blade just has so many options. Be a masterless, cruel warlord, and loot villages, destroy towns etc. or be a poor peasent fighting with the bigger armies. The possibilities are endless in this game. And the mods keep on adding more and more to it. I don't think I'll ever be bored of this game. Especially when TLD and TPW come out, along with multi.

EDIT: Code fail

I would choose Medieval 2: Total War, but whatever.

M&B>MTW2>ETW.

i think its a valid comparison anyways, since i'm comparing the game-breaking bugs.

and there's far fewer game-breakers in mount and blade than CA's latest efforts.

plus its got a diplomacy system that friggin works. ETW and MTW2s diplomacy has been broken for god knows how long.
its really beautiful how you can favor either the warmongering or the peace-loving lords as it suits you.
in MTW2 its "get attacked by everyone, all the time". and the battles are about as exciting as watching paint dry, because 90% of the battles are sieges, where if you sally out, the enemy will just stand there while you pick them off one by one. in MTW2, i usually put 2 ballistas and lots of horses to defend the castles. killed all the archers with the horses, then rolled the ballistas up on the side of the enemy army, and kept shooting the ballistas, while the enemy was simply standing around.

Get the Kingdoms expansion and install Retrofit mod.

In terms of overall enjoyment... this game is definitely better than that terrible game. You can't really compare graphics, gameplay, or much of anything because they are so different. Now comparing this game to say Oblivion would be better... but not necessarily accurate either.

But I played through the demo right before it released and thankfully I did. I was going to buy it (I've owned every Total War game since the beginning) but the demo gave me a decent experience and it just wasn't worth the high price. Maybe if it comes down to $19.99 on Steam I might pick it up.

ETW never crashed on me but I found the gameplay monoton and boring, RTW is still the best total war game for me.

Rome Total War is still the better of them all. The Mods are fully developed now. There is a LOTR mod coming out for Medi 2. Looks great.

Rome is decent and the best gameplay and scope of all of them... but I still liked the original Medieval TW setting. I liked the Shogun setting too and was waiting for the longest time for that Ran No Jedai mod... but I don't know if they ever finished it.

There was a decent Lotr mod for Rome that I played extensively. Of course I picked the Rohirrim and crushed my opponents (drove the Orc into Mordor and destroyed the One Ring). Good times.

Medieval TW2 I wasn't too excited about. Better graphics... but that's just about it.

You just summed up my Total War experience (except for the LoTR thing).

I played MTW2 and took it back the same day for a refund.  It was the last time I did, or will play a Creative Assembly game.  Or any other Sega game, actually.
