Recruit
is melee, when i have teammates near me and i cant attack because my sword bounces off them, so im basically unable to do anything since my teammates are blocking my sword arc, yet for the enemy they just run to me and are all spamming attack simultaneously, why the double standard? they shouldnt be able to spam attack if i cant attack when my teammates are too close to me.

You could overhead swing, or stab.

EDIT: Also, how would you suggest the game know you can't complete a swing and then limit the enemy's swing. That's a ridiculous notion, maybe you should keep your troops off your back, it's not terribly hard.

Your grammar.

you're just dumb, that is a typo, has nothing to do with grammar.

i dont understand what you are saying in the edited part the game DOES realize i cant complete a swing which is the entire point of the post, i have my sword bounce off my teammates while the computer attacks THROUGH each other, its stupid and unfair.

keep my troops off my back? should i kill entire castles/cities on my own because of a broken design? i wouldnt mind if same thing happened to the computer, but seeing people attack me through their teammates with spears is stupid.

No one profits from a flame war, let's stay polite.

@the OP.  Why shouldn't they?  Tell your troops to charge, and then go take on someone.  There's no rule of combat saying that enemies can't attack you.

It's not broken design, I can fight with dozen of troops surrounding me with no issues. You just have to know what you're doing. During a siege, when the majority take a left, go right, or vice-versa. You could also use the different strategic commands to give yourself enough space to fight. Also, you could jump to get out of the crowd and into the enemy's lines. I don't see anything too terribly hard about any of this.

Wouldn't it be more ridiculous if your sword magically went through people or if the enemy couldn't swing if your side were near them? I mean, the game has some flaws, but this really isn't one of them...

OP appears to be saying that the AI can attack him through their teammates, not his, while he is unable to attack through his own.

I haven't specifically noticed this, though: to me, the enemys' attacks do appear to bounce off their compatriots' bodies. You can see this from backpedaling with a group coming after you along a wall - the AI will swing at you like mad, but their attacks clearly stop after colliding with others in front of them.

Perhaps it's just luck, that the attacks you're referencing didn't collide with their hitbox and made their way through.

Also, spear attacks from the second or third rank of a melee detachment is not too unbelievable, spear thrusts like those probably SHOULD bypass nearby teammates!

Yeah, I've just never really noticed this as a problem; I'm pretty certain that the opposing AI seem to be able to do what I can, but maybe its something to do with the way they arranged themselves when they attacked him.

I do find it annoying that my guys get in my way, and even push me away.  I'm the one with the plate armour and the great axe.  So yeah, I just overhead swing and am happy to get 1 in 3 hits until my idiotic marksmen die off and I get guard the top of the ladder.  I think AI only allows swings when they are in the clear, whereas we have to try see an openning, which usually closes up or shifts by the time we swing.

Main problem, IMO, is the tendency enemies have to rush and hug your character.

This is an issue also M&B had, and I was hoping to see it fixed at least in Warband, if not directly some time ago in M&B itself.

One thing is true, tho: while enemies are hugging you, 90% of the times you CANNOT complete a swing because your arms "bounce" off enemies' bodies, while your foes DO manage to complete a swing, and hit you, most of the times.

There are some workarounds, but still it's quite annoying...

yeah i dont get how only 1 person understood what i was saying

the AI can attack through THEIR teammates, and i CAN NOT attack through MY teammates

Sarranid lords with 50%+ of their party consisting of mamlukes.

It's the type of thing that makes you quit for a week.

The solution:

Give us finally Melee Friendly Fire in singleplayer. I love it.

Then OP will be able to swing when his allies are nearby.

(I anticipate threads: "The most annoying thing in this game: I kill my own team all the time)

the AI can attack through THEIR teammates, and i CAN NOT attack through MY teammates

Yes, that annoys me too. AI just spams their hits over each other, which is a problem when you fight on foot and want to survive.

This is one of the main reasons I play as an archer in single player (well that and the tendency that bots have to gang up on the player).

I can testified to what the OP is saying. Just today I started a SP game since i didn't have much time to hit the MP. While participating in a town match (not the tournaments) I saw this happen enough times that I quit the game in disgust. With everything on normal was impossible to fight more than two opponents without a shield. Even then, allot times went i struck the AI another one hit me by tricking trough one of the other opponents without afflicting any damage him.

I haven't play infantry enough yet to say if this persist in the regular battles but if it does is a really disappointing game aspect, I don't remember if this issue was present in MB.

AI is just too stupid for this...

You would have to spread out your army hugely to make them even slightly effective.

Same reason AI can't Friendly Fire (in MP) - if they could they'd kill themselves long before the enemy got near them.
