Most annoying Enemy

(this is pure opinion, and of course everybody elses is welcome)

Personaly, I hate the Swadian Crossbowmen to no end.
You try to ride them down and they shoot you with their crossbows at point blank, doing about 50 damage (EXAGGERATION! I know somebody is going to say 'Crossbows dont do 50 damage! OMG U SUCK!' or something similar), AND ruining your attack run.
By the time you manage to turn around, they have a spear out and are poking your horse in the ass, or theyve reloaded and shoot you in the back of the head.

Other than that, spearmen on horse annoy me, considering you pretty much HAVE to attack them from the left, otherwise their range means they beat you 9 times out of 10.

Well... i managed to win a fight against 40 black knights with a company of 14 individuals, but i lost against 20 crossbowmen with 20 friends on my side. Guess this says a lot about how much i hate swadians crossbowmen... luckily, i AM swadian... their more european feel and look made me like them :P

Second most hated unit are spearmen on FOOT! I have no problems with spearmen on horse, i beat them... it's those on foot that i have problems with.

Oh well, i just dismount from my horse and cleave my way into their brain, but they ARE an annoyance.

Yeah... I hate any ground archers, mainly because I favor a sword of war. Meaning no arrow defense. With my good old SoW, I managed to single handedly defeat 30 odd black riders, but crossbowman still managed to get me from time to time. So I started carrying a big old kite shield and scimitar to ride em down with. That works well, and I fill out my last equipment slot with the higher lvl javelins, i forget what they're called.

I also can't believe how powerful they are.. Last night I was escorting a caravan. (because I was bored) and along the way we encountered 40 swadian deserter crossbowmen.. I had almost 18 knights, I think that marnid dude, and some gaurdsmen or whatever... I came outa the fight with 2 knights 1 guardsmen, and a knocked out Marnid.. I alone fought off about the last two waves...

I hate archers, and that's why I ride about with a lance+shield combination. If the enemy has a lot of archers and throwers, I can't even engage in my favourite sport: mounted archery with live targets...

When you ride next to the crossbowmen, let them fire a bolt in your shield, and then kill them. The only problem is that your shield gets damaged and broken pretty quickly if there are 20-40 crossbowmen, but even that is better than having a bolt shot through your head. And at close range, they do aim at your head!

If you don't have a shield, all you can do is try to do a ride-by attack... Stopping in front of a loaded crossbow is suicide.

hehe...now i know that i will add at least 10-15 crossbowman to my party! that should give a good "fire-base" when iam charging in the front, only to come back, covered by my crossbow man.

lets see if it works...

(for now i only need a licence key, but hopefully i get it today or tomorrow)

Well, and beg Armagan to have formations like I proposed implemented :). I mean to line them up, tell them to hold and open fire, to assign other troops to protect them (while they use missles excusively).
Now that'll be way more fun.

So...sort of like a souped up Medieval Total-War game, then?

You say that like it's a bad thing. :P

I think more control over how your men organise would be great - why have all those archers and crossbowmen if they just run off alone even if you tell them to hold position, then get run down and slaughtered?

Formations, or atleast beter control/ai of your men would be awsome. I love the braveheart esque battlefields littered with 60+ corpses after a big battle.

It would be way cooler though, if you could control your men in a meaninful way, rather then what I do right now, which is use them as meatsheilds while I slaughter the enemy army.

I use only vaegir knights (is it right spelling?) and when i charge crossbow men they only hit me for bout 10 then i kill them all with my lovely longsword.

Well I actually hate those riders more. Mostly because they seem to have AWACS planes or something, they lock on to you with their "radar" and never let go :). It's annoying because it allways happens when I'm heavilly loaded and short of troops.

Crossbowmen are slow and easilly avoided.

I love trying to lance those crossbowmen. There's always the chance that they'll hit me as I'm riding towards them, but I like to imagine they're crapping themselves as they see 500 pounds of destruction coming at them.

Swadian Crossbowmen are my top enemies. When you have four or five of them all shooting at you at once your guaranteed to end up face first in the mud and likely down to less than half health before you even engage them.

Can you hold multiple shields, and switch in a new one when your first gets broken? That might make crossbowmen easier to handle.

Vaegir knights with Bardiches. I can deal with every other type of knight, but the bardiche wielding ones ALWAYS seem to get the first hit when I charge them (usually ending in me being unconscious), plus they butcher my knights easily. And they also seem to be able to hit guys nearly directly behind them when they are being chased on their horses. The bardiche really is the uber-weapon of this game.

Yep. For a while, I always carried two shields. When one got busted, I would just pull out the second. If you toss a couple of points into the shield skill and get a halfway decent shield, though, it's not as necessary.

Still, I find crossbowmen to be the most annoying enemies. I never pick a fight with those Swadian deserters (I wonder why only their crossbowmen decide to go rogue). They're good at ripping up your teammates, who don't generally get their shields up to block bolts, and just do a massive amount of damage when you're approaching. One or two isolated crossbowmen aren't a big deal, but it's hard to even land a hit on one when his buddies are turning you into a pincusion.

Dark Knights are also a pain, because they seem to slaughter my team. I always win against them, but I cringe every time one of my own knights gets dropped.

I have no idea what you people are talking about. Yesterday, my little army of 38 (a mix of about 13 knights, 10 footmen and 12 veterans + me, Marnid and Borcha) took on 50 Swadian crossbowmen deserters. Killed them all like little puppies, only lost about two footmen.

It was so cool, the terrain was relatively open, little hills, we charged at full speed. Arrows flew at us, I remember one flying close between me and Marnid. Best fight ever. I love these guys.

By the way, I play on Good AI, Normal damage and full Battle size. I'm also level 30.

Well, if you have 30 guys to throw at them SC's are easy, if theyre all shooting at you, theyre damn near impossible to kill, especialy if you dont have decent armour yet.
