Moss' computer, Finally Finished

正在查看此主题的用户

Windows 7, probably 64 bit.

Just bought the monitor. I'll start buying the rest of the components in a couple of days when the funds are finally transferred from my old bank account.

If you're running Win7, I'd suggest you get at least another 2GB of RAM. Win7 requires a minimum of 4GB, go figure.

Update!

Events have happened!

Monitor has arrived, 20" apple cinema display. I've also gotten some scrap parts for building the case, though that comes later.

Currently transferring my funds to my new bank, I'll be buying the rest of the equipment in a day or so when it's there.

Super awesome things which I will buy:

Any last minute suggestions/criticisms? Keep in mind that for the most part these are all completely arbitrary choices as I only vaguely know what I'm doing.

I hope you aren't forgetting about fittings for the radiator and pump, but what size you need is dependent on the tubing's inner diameter.

Also, you should get something to protect the exposed fans on your rad.

A tower CPU cooler would provide a greater amount of surface area than the stock cooler.

EDIT:
powering the radiator fans looks kind of tricky.  Did you have any ideas?

Plug it in? I don't see a plug on it, can it be hooked up to, say, the power bar / wall socket?

Don't worry, I didn't forget the rest of the stuff for the radiator/pump, I'm just going to buy it from a local store for simplicities sake.

A non-stock cooler for the CPU hadn't occurred to me. I'm going to be setting up the radiator to pump in from above the CPU and out from a bit under it, so that should help a fair bit with the cooling. If it's not enough I'll buy one and install it later.

As to the fans, I was just going to get a long molex cable and run it out to them through the top of the case.

All ordered and on the way.

Things have arrived!

Everything is present and accounted for (although they gave me the 965 instead of the 945 processor).

At the moment I'm playing around with the case design in my spare time.

Here's what I've got so far:
Case-2.jpg

1. Hole for the power switch.
2. Hole for the motherboard tray to sit through (It'll be screwed onto the lid).
3. Mounting brackets for the Hard Drive.
4. Perspex block, holds the Hard Drive up on one side and the Radiator on the other. Multitasking!
5. A smaller perspex block to hold the lower end of the radiator.
Case3D.jpg

The measurements are all guesstimates, I haven't gotten around to getting everything set up and finding out the dimensions. Also, the back plates for the Radiator won't be molded directly to the case, they'll have a small gap so there's rooms for the screws to go through.

I probably won't have much time to work on this in the next couple of days, as I'm still trying to sort out my accommodation issues, but I should be able to get my order to the Perspex shaper early next week.

Congrats on getting everything, hope it works out. I hope your design works out as well as the one you linked some time ago, it looked awesome.

Yep.

The case is currently being made up by the perspex shaper, it should be done by Thursday or Friday. He'll do the mount for the radiator and braces for the hard drive when I pick it up.

After that all I need to do is pick up the oil and a few extra wires and plug it all together. Hopefully it'll all be done in the next fortnight or so.

Everythings been delayed a bit because I've been busy organising accommodation and University courses, I only stopped being homeless yesterday. Hopefully nothing will crop up in the next few days and I can finally get this finished.

Yes, I eagerly second this question.

You're brilliant Moss, and I hope for your success, but on one condition. When you can play the high end games in your few minutes of relaxation, do post the screenshots.
