My guess is he's trying to point out that the somewhat good intellectual calibre here is good for debate and discussion yet when left to our own devices we always tend to gravitate towards immature jokes instead.

This article presents a good point. (I personally don't fully agree with it, but others mite) also as a person who lost many friends on 9/11. I don't support this project. I don't have a problem with a mosque being built in the area, just not so close.
