Has anyone tried Mortal Online? It's a sandbox mmorpg with elements of Oblivion and M&B (especially the combat system). It looks really cool but sometimes sound really cool then end up being bad.

Is the world divided into areas where you can pvp and not pvp?

Never played it, this sparked my interest and I looked up reviews, apparently its full PVPs, even in towns. (At least it was during that point of beta.)

Is it free?

Is any good MMO free? Though Mortal Online is one of the first in the new wave of MMOs to offer a one time lifetime payment to the game.

Wikipedia sums up the game rather well and unbiased too.

Mortal Online is a First Person, open-world, Player versus Player MMORPG by the Swedish video game company Star Vault released on June 9, 2010. The game is inspired by the desire to return to Ultima Online's player-controlled, sandbox-style game design; it uses Unreal Engine 3 by Epic Games and features a skill-based, action-style combat system.

Mortal Online does not have a traditional level/class system, but rather a skill and attribute system similar to the Elder Scrolls series. There are 10 different races for the player to choose from and players can have Three characters per account, but all characters on a specific account share a soul called a Deva which binds the actions of all characters together. Finally, Mortal Online features a non-repeating history designed to dramatically enhance the game's persistent world realism.

Gameplay

Overview of skills and attributes in Mortal OnlineMortal online has an FFA (Free-For-All) PvP system, with consequences for killing innocent players in the form of “flags”, which change from blue (innocent) to grey (Allowed) to red (murderer). Being "allowed" in Mortal Online means that other players can either attack you without being flagged themselves, or can call the guards. Doing other crimes in game also “allows” the player, for example; getting caught pick pocketing, or stealing a horse. Mortal Online also has a strict death penalty compared to other popular MMO’s; when a player dies, they lose all of the items in their inventory. This death penalty also allows for there to be “real” raiders and bandits, because a player literally can jump out of an alley, kill a person, and steal everything (that’s not in the bank). Another way for players to relieve others of their goods is pick pocketing, which in game is divided into two skills: snooping and pilfering, which together make pick pocketing. Other than robbing and killing, players can craft, build houses, explore, tame animals, mine, hunt, or practice skills. The crafting in Mortal Online is a very complex and in-depth system, with more than 100 skills in crafting alone, many of which are for using materials. In Mortal Online players can also construct houses, bridges, walls, and keeps, all of which can be attacked and destroyed by other players (with a considerable amount of time and effort). Mortal Online also allows players to tame wild animals as companions or mounts.

Yeah like the idea sounds really neat, just not sure if it's implemented in the best way. Hoping it is, I'd play that game non-stop!

WOW, that looks amazingly sexy.... YOU CAN BUILD BUILDINGS!!! The economy must be very intricate.... Awesome, thank you for making this thread, you made my day.

It's not like building buildings is anything new. Haven and hearth allows you to build mines, boats, and wagons including houses.

But it's slow to start, and confusing.

Not to mention that it gets really repetitive if you don't spend any initiative contacting the outside world, considering the hugeness of the world.

i was in the beta for it and i was mistaken for a theif so these guys with really good gear hunted me down and killed me   then they said srry and gave me everything back

Sadly that same mistake doesn't work out as well in real life.

This looks awesome. I would probably play some jungle ***** killing anything that moves, I dislike PvP.

I wonder if this is true:

Alfie posted more about this in the other topic, but I was keeping with the NDA I signed - which is about as valid as a used roll of toilet paper since I never got a copy signed by both parties. So yes, I'm HC Calix and Bibi was GM Tiamat.

Every single bug Prometheus found - and every single bug you guys told me for my "Bug Compedium" - was posted by me, on the GM forums for the Devs to read. If I wanted to abuse the information I was privy to, we could have duped enough gold to build 10 keeps - indeed, there was an exploit to purchase 30 keep deeds for 1 silver, so we could have gotten 30 keep deeds. The day thieving was implemented, you could dupe stolen items by stacking them endlessly on things. So, steal 1000 bone tissue, split stack, put 999 on 1 gold coin, voila, 1000 gold coins. Rule of thumb, every patch brings 1-5 major exploits and 1 dupe method.

Bibi has been set up as a scapegoat in Starvault for Henrik's failed business moves (they postponed loans, invested with money they didn't have yet, etc). Can't go into exact details, because of legal matters. She has been removed from the GM staff, and I've been found guilty by association - removed from the GM staff and permabanned on the forums. All by Community Manager Maerlyn, while the Lead GM Pompeii was on vacation. He was supposed to be back today (Tuesday), but we have been informed by friends in the GM staff that Henrik declared a blackout on communications against us. So in effect, Pompeii refused to talk to us. We had to find out we've "left the team" (as Maerlyn told everyone) from a fellow Counselor. In addition to that, we've had our game-vouchers(compensation that GM's get, free gametime) removed ~1-2 hours after being kicked off the team with no notice, or explanation.

Bibi(Epaphus, Animus, Tiamat) and myself (Calix) were the EU Game Support. Two volunteers. The only paid staff is Pompeii (Lead GM) and Discord (GM), who is only paid (100$ a month) for rebooting the server during US time.

Every hacker we've banned, has been unbanned inside 3 days - usually by sending a PM to Henrik, then Henrik comes screaming in Ventrillo why was Person X banned. Or, they wouldn't bother with even that, they'd just be in-game again the next day; usually the way to avoid a permaban is to go into game account and change the username. This was employed by Russian who was permabanned a whopping 7 times, on the 8th time he was "permabanned" we were told to stop banning him because he gave information about exploits and pays 3 subscriptions.

No exploiters, no hackers, no cheaters, no dupers have been banned. No duped in-game items were removed, the only removed items were all the question-mark items because they didn't know how to fix it. Up to about a month ago, the only "means of hack detection" were the same as the regular player - fraps it. Only advantage we had is that we could fly invisible, and we were still detected by 3rd party radar programs.

So to cut the long story short, we got screwed and scammed of the gametime we earned (game-vouchers are awarded after a month's work).

I don't intend to subscribe for this month. We've discussed this endlessly with the officers, some of them like Predator don't seem to intend to pay their subs anymore, some like Nidhogg have 3-month subs running and are a bit screwed. Next month, I'll reconsider if there's anything to really return to - I suspect SV will go bankrupt soon, since I can confirm that during prime-time EU there is ~300 people playing on the server.

Personally, I regret even getting involved in Mortal Online. The only reasons why I'm leaving it open that I might return after a month; is that I don't want to see a year's worth of hard work by the guild go to waste, and there is nothing out there for CIR to play.

In my absence, I leave Sengyr in charge of CIR's MO division. It has been a privilege and a great satisfaction to be playing with you guys and building something truly great; you can be proud in the fact that out of all the constructed keeps on the server, ours is the only one constructed with legitimate gold.

Maybe it has gone more buggy. I had great fun pvping, it was amazing if you were in a clan.

I remember that we once chased a guy who didn't notice us but we couldn't catch him because we didn't have mounts. I shouted "STOP!" and he
stopped. We then gathered around him and he said "sup". Instead replying, we took our weapons and gangbanged him.

In another occasion, we killed a guy's mount and hid behind the rocks near the corpse. The owner arrived enraged and we chopped his head off.

Once we were at the spider cave and like 6 guys attacked us. My health went low and i ran inside the pitch black cave. Multiple enemies followed me but they lost me because of the darkness. Some of them had torches but my clanmates jumped from the top of the cave like ninjas and the battle continued outside the cave and my clanmates eventually chase the enemy off. I was lost inside the cave because i couldn't see anything and i had no torch. My clanmates eventually rescued me, i was relieved when i saw the torchlight coming from behind the corner.

Nice little adventures, you don't really get them in wow-clones.
