more minigames

Sergeant at Arms
I love the quests-as-minigames approach.  They give you the opportunity to practice your skills in much more specific environments than the general battlefield.  I am enjoying experimenting with different weapons and light armour combos when taking the the Murderer quests and practicing melee.  Similarly the peasant revolts when collecting taxes helps train you and your companions in polearms, which is useful.  Herding cattle is good practice for driving forest bandits onto the plains.

We have:

A 1-on-1 melee minigame in the Hunt Murderer & Assassinate Merchant quests
A companions-v-many staff battle in the Collect Taxes quest
Herding cattle is also a minigame

So, what other minigmaes can we think of?  We badly need some using horses, I think.

Others have already suggested a companions-v-many with normal weapons as part of a larger Murderer Hunt quest.  Maybe this could be something like Settle A Feud?  A gang or an extended family or something.  How could this best be done?

How about a horse race?  Maybe something like a village map could be made as a horse race or for more complexity a horse fair.  There are at least two obvious racers, a straight out circuit and a steeplechase.  We get little opportunity to use, and therefore practice, horse jumping.  Any other races?

What about some cavalry melee mingames?  How about "Intercept the messenger" which spawns on a race-type map but in which you have to catch, fight and kill one opponent?

Or a "Knight at the Ford" which could be a 1-on-1 cavalry duel with whatever weapons you have handy.

Things to consider:
cavalry or not
group or not
armoured or not
where else the skill it trains is used

Any ideas?

Noble Hunting as a minigame.  Practice your horse archery, lance and spear skills versus deer

Deer on the map like cattle - play mingame of companions versus deer with kills poducing food.

minigame is the wrong term, but yes. Special battle or quest is the more appropriate term since the same rules of play apply. More varied quests is good.

Knights randomly holding bridges for a fight of renown (with non-lethal weapons) would be nice indeed. You might also be able to hold a bridge, but watch out for bandits!

I give full support for new quests like this. It would breathe more life into the game, for a start. A one on one dismounted duel with a knight would be great, as would be hunting (thus a new way of making money).

Perhaps even joining hunting/war parties as a week long "profession" involving scripted fights and minigames on the side (tavern brawls, etc.), but that's been versuggested by now.

1-on-1 arena jousting with all the nobles invited, in a competition format (prelim, quarterfinal, semifinal, etc).  The winner rakes in lots of reknown.

Archery competition.  5 targets at different distances, 10 arrows, score is the sum of your best shot on each target.  In other words, you are best off allocating 2 arrows per target, which does not give you much chance to correct your aim using prior arrows as "tracer rounds".

Fox hunt, in the forest.  The King and all nobles of the faction participate.  Each is mounted and has a crossbow with limited ammunition.  There could be one or more foxes...  I'm not sure which would be better.  Nords, of course, would do this on foot with throwing axes.

Pimp Contest.  All participants disband their entire army.  Then, whoever arrives at the city holding the contest within 10 days with the most Camp Followers (in the army, or as prisoners) will gain the title, High Pimp of Caladria.

Mission Impossible: Kidnapping.  "My unruly daughter has eloped with Lord X!  We are at war with them, and the diplomatic repercussions would be terrible.  The wedding is scheduled for <current date + 7 days> in the city of X, and until then, she will probably be hiding in the tavern or in a nearby village with her loyal bodyguards (2 or 3 of them).  Kill the bodyguards - though admirably loyal, they have committed treason - and persuade my daughter to come back, by force if necessary; though I forbid you to shed a drop of her blood.  And beware of Lord X, who will no doubt be patrolling nearby to intercept agents such as yourself!"

Saboutage.  "Sneak into hostile City X and sell the unsuspecting horse merchant this Poisoned Hay.  My armies are gathering nearby, preparing for an assault; you must accomplish this task on <current date + 1 day> - no sooner, and no later."
(Ideally, that faction's horses enter combat with 50% HP for the next full day).

The "holding the bridge" contest was traditionally a mounted (jousting) one, although foot contests would be great for another venue.

i think another thing to add would cities haveing festivities, were you could enter jousting tournys, duels, archery comps. and whatever anybody could thing of.

And buy exotic imported goods from faraway places -
Zebra mounts, spices (morale bonus), African spears, Oriental swords, shuriken, vodka, silks, Persian camel-riding mercenaries, poisons, and a pet Dragon Whelp like in World of Warcraft.

Good ideas, if you ask me.
Hunting, jousting, tavern brawls, fist fights, archery tournaments, village/town fairs... all of this would add flavour and fun to the game.
And more quests (assassination, sabotage, kidnapping, saving the damsel, etc.) could improve the gameplay too. Just think of blackmail and other "political" options to alter the relations between lords and factions.

I like the sound of this idea, it reminds me of the caravan escort missions from Fallout 1+2. I suppose having escort missions like that would be good for the beginning of the game where the player does not have much of an army and so can guard a caravan along with a group of other hired mercenaries. If it could be coded in so that only the player's troops respond to orders then it would be even better.

There should be a jousting tournament, with the prize being some decent armour or some money along with renown and your very own medieval groupies!

I would love proper jousting so, so much.

Lords' Tournament

Faction Tournament
There will start all of lords from yours faction (king will sit with public).
Something like football tournament.
Two lords came to arena. They fight on horses with lances. Then they fight on feet with weapon which they choose. They will have point for each round. Person which have more points is the winner. He goes up, looser quits Faction tournament. For winning all tournament You can have something special: like few point of renown + some cash or fief.
Tournament can be one time in month in concretely city.

2 or more factions' Tournament
It have same rules like Faction Tournament, but all fights is between Factions. There will start all lords from faction which starts tournament and all from other faction (those ones which don't have war with faction starting tournament).
It can be one time in 2/3 month.

Of course in those tournament will starts all lords whose will be in city where Tournament is.

Archers Tournament
Something like normal fight on arena, but idea is shooting to target. (Like in robin Hood  )
