More factions in mp mod?

I have this idea for a new mod, but there is one important thing that I am wondering about. Because if Warband doesnt or cant support it or if it is hardcoded then theres no point in working on it :s

Instead of 2 big teams, this game mode needs to have multiple (smaller) teams/factions. So for example when you log in the game you as a player can choose between 10+ different factions. It would also be nice IF it is even possible to make your own faction and protect it with a password. (probably asking to much here eh?) Each team must have a cap of like 5 - 10 players.
(This is mainly to force small teamplay)

But my question is if this is even possible to make?

I'm only a novice at programming and mod creation, but perhaps you could implement this by starting with a free-for-all and then creating pseudo-factions and pseudo-teams via scripting?
 
Hmm I forgot to mention that im a noob at programming, but I am willing to learn and invest time when I know that its possible to make a mod like that. :)
 
This is possible, in a way; but probably far too complicated and difficult for anyone new to the module system. It seems only the first two hard coded teams can be used for players in multiplayer mode; to allow more teams you'd have to reimplement teams with the module system and modify a whole bunch of scripts and presentations to work with it.
 
Pretty much that. You would have to find every entry concernig team 1 and 2 and add the 3rd one in. It's freaking alot of work. I had this idea too but wont look into It now.
 
It's not just a case of using the extra hard coded teams, like with the single player mods that allowed multiple teams at the same time - in multiplayer, team 2 is used for spectators, and if a player is set to team 3 or above it seems hard coded that they don't spawn. The agents can be set to teams up to 7, but hard coded things like death messages and so on are mucked up, then. It's a huge complicated mess to get something halfway reasonable.
 
Argh that is sad to hear. Still..knowing that it IS possible (not impossible) gives me a little hope, even tho it is complicated.
Id really love to see the idea work out.

How would it work if you do would use FFA and create pseudo factions?

I'm not good at modding yet, so this is only wild speculation that will probably be mixed with misuse of terminology, but I would attempt it by having scripts assign players to pseudo-teams based upon a new game menu you've created. Each player's choices in the custom game menu (one based upon, but not actually being, the current default team choice menu) would determine which team he was assigned to, and scripts would also govern stuff like each team's goals, player scores, etc. Since you would have complete control of the troop choices available for each pseudo-team, you could effectively limited each team to one faction by simply restricting the troop choices to the desired faction.

Good point. I'd recommend asking the PW creators how they achieved 3+ teams.
 
atm just downloaded and installed the mount and musket mod and they do have multiple regiments within a team (nation).

Well i hope there is a way to make a 3rd faction in MP at least for bots!
So i could make a MP-dungeon where monsters are an additional threat to the both teams!?
