While journeying through the lands of Calradia, it quickly became apparent, that the bandits and enemies were quite a monochromatic bunch without a lot of variability. You start off the game by killing bandits and soon every battle becomes the same, rinse and repeat.
My suggestion is the following:
Add new bandit factions
- Peasant uprisings (~slighly stronger than looters, similar to villagers or militia)
- Rebels (consist of some factions' troops, stronger than bandits)
- Bandit lords (at some random intervals a bandit lord would spawn and gather a large horde of bandits together to raid and plunder)
Add variability to existing enemies
- Bandit stacks not made up of only one single unit: looters, for example, might have looters, pillagers and plunderers which are all weak, but have slightly different uniforms and weapons so as to increase the variability.
- Having more than a single type of troop could let the AI control them in different ways and not only charge you every battle.
