More Co-Operation with NPC Characters/Bands?

Must say that I'm loving this game right now, best of luck with it. I figured I would sign-up to the forums and perhaps be of some help.

Anyway, this suggestion regards how your character and their company interacts with the other groups on the map.

The idea came from the fact that it is often hard to build a well-balanced force, and I instead have to go for all of one units type because of the stack restrictions. It would be interesting to have more opportunities to fight alongside allies - I'll bring the sergeants, the NPC band will bring crossbowmen, for example.

Basically, when you sign-on to one side or the other, counts could give you orders to join parties from that side. You get experience and maybe money for showing up, and you trek around with them until they are done their mission (maybe you don't control your movement for this period).

"Captain so-and-so will be leading a war-party to Halmar to Veluca to intercept bandits for 4 days. Meet his party at Praven in two days" etc.

Higher rank characters (simply your rank/pay scale in the army) could be ordered to meet a party, and then actual lead it - being given orders such as to raid a caravan, intercept an enemy party, sack a town. For this period your force will be enlarged with more troops.

"You are ordered to lead a war party against Vaegir forces near Uxhaul. Additional forces await near Jelkala, collect them there and return to Sargoth when you are finished" etc.

Something like this could also be done with caravan missions (rather than having to look after a caravan that you keep outrunning) or even early on, allowing you to sign-up with some manhunters.

You can give troops to Marnid and Borcha while they're outside your party, that's a good way to make room for upgrades.

It'd be good if you could instruct them to follow you, and join in battles you've started (or been forced into). Perhaps have them arriving fashionably late (a few minutes after battle starts)?

I definitely agree that when you're assigned to the task of escorting a caravan, you should join forces with them for a short period and everyone in their party is "in effect" in your party, except you are not the "leader" so the restrictions of your Leadership skill do not affect these missions, the caravan master manages his own units and you manage your own. Any thoughts anyone? I am also sick of outrunning the caravans and then having to backtrack every 3 seconds.... or maybe have an option for speed adjustments to match the speed of any party you are traveling with.
