Hey guys

I'm getting pissed with having low morale and my higher tier troops leaving my army.  I've tried filling my inventory with food and fighting bandits etc.  My faction isn't at war with anyone so i cannot pillage villages or attack enemy armies.  still sometime i lose morale even when fighting armies double to troop count :S

How big is your warband? Morale is very difficult to keep up in large warbands unless you're keeping them occupied - i.e. doing constant fighting. If you're not you're probably better off dismissing or dropping off (at a castle) a bunch of your troops. :)

Do you use different varieties of food? That helps too instead of just breadbreadbread. You also gain extra morale for winning battles.

The best way to keep morale high is to have a small army. If you're not at war with anyone you needn't run around with 100 guys, 25 to 50 will be sufficient for most bandit encounters.

meh im fighting with a party consisting of my companions and some rhodok tribesmen to a total of 11.  Fought against 30 bandits and i still lost 2 morale...

That's odd, if you fought them straight on (without retreating and re-attacking) and won, you should gain some morale at least, especially since they outnumber you. But yes, 109 is too large a party to be rolling with in peacetime, as others have said about 25-30 men should be enough for killing bandits.

Routing enemies do not affect your morale.
Have you tried looking at your party morale report? You get base morale of +50 plus your leadership times 12, i.e. leadership 0f 9 equals +108 to morale, plus food variety. It's relatively easy to have +60 due to food variety with non-perishable items. Morale decreases by one for every member except yourself in your party.

are you a Rhodok army fighting a lot of guys from the same faction? Also, you're not sitting around in castles/towns a lot, I hope? Also make sure you're not personally killing your own men in battle. Can't think of much else...

Hm, what you may want to do is disband your whole army, and spend some time scouting. Find bandit camps and just leave them there. That way whenever your army is low on morale, you can run to the nearest bandit camp and meet a sufficient number of attackers. (I would recommend sea raiders or taiga bandits, more EXP and loot).

A side note, this strategy also works for training soldiers, seeing as the real training camps are useless time wasters its just quicker to run into a large mob of sea raiders.

Also, if none of this works, try just keeping a party of 30 or so. Just enough to deter most bandits, but not enough to suck all your morale away. You can also try using an assortment of different foods for a larger morale boost (bread, meat, and wine give a nice fat morale bonus).
