Morale - especially during sieges and getting it back up.

Getting castles/cities now is VERY challenging.  It's pretty much a given that you will have to make several attempts before actually getting a castle/city.

Last night I actually captured a castle and had my morale go down by 2!  What gives?!

Also, I made an attempt at a castle and I didn't make it.  My morale went down to 35.  I went back to my castle and made my army of 125 into an army of 35 in an effort to get my morale back up.  We killed about 50 bandits and my morale went up by 2.  What!?!

Anyway, I could swear that nothing happened and the next time I checked my morale it had actually gone up?  Does "recent events" tend to go towards 0 if nothing happens?

(It was at -50 when I went from my big army to my small army..)

Yeah, I think they've changed morale so it 'sticks' better now. I had recruited 22 captured mamlukes to my party and morale went to about 10... I went and but everyone expect companions+10 knights in a castle... and morale stayed at 10 :S.

I think your party gains morale mostly from fighting large parties. To be honest, I'd think that party morale should drop if you make unprofitable trades and should, in a peaceful or peace-time party, bottom out at "below average" (prior to troop desertions). I've been in situations before where, after fighting a faction, that I get a huge negative morale associated with some troops. Usually, I go find a castle and fill it with those no-morale troops and take out another faction's.

Does morale go up when you're making good money with trades?

As far as I know it doesn't, but I think it should. If I was a professional soldier tasked with just marching about making lots of money and getting fed reliably I'd be rather happy to just do that and occasionally fight rather than risk my life every single day

I'm not sure about the money thing...

I've taken some pretty long trips without fighting anyone and had my morale stay at 99.  I was making money hand-over-fist buying and selling things though.

I wish there was a published formula.  Sometimes it really baffles me...
