Moral dilemma - rescue the father or meet with the daughter in secret?

Hi all,
I have a bit of a moral dilemma in my game.
I have just taken my first castle and setup my own faction.
One of the things to help to be recognised as a king was to marry into a noble family.
Now it so happens that the daughter of a prominent Rhodock family is the target of my ambitions and she seems to return my attention.
She has sent me a letter saying that she has a way for us to meet in secret without her father knowing, but it would seem her father has now been captured by the Sarranids.
I have actually rescued this particular lord a couple of times from imprisonment, he cant be a very good warrior and I have completed a few quests for him as well, so my relations with him are quite high (40+), which is why I spoke to him about his daughter in the first place. So I have no problems with the prison breaks.
I am not at war with the Sarranids so breaking him out isnt going to be too difficult.

My question is do I rescue the father first or meet with the daughter first?

Do I take the dutiful suitor path and rescue the father with the corresponding boost to relations with the father and the faction plus some renown and possibly taking too long to visit the daughter and suffering a relation hit.
Will she be impressed by my bravery and courage in rescuing her father once again?

Ahhhhh, what to do my heart is torn, please help.

Rescue her father then go meet her! BUT as soon as the fight begins turn your boom box up to max with Mariah Carey's "Hero"! So then when you go to your woman she will only be able to quiver in your embrace when her "hero comes along"! Trust me, this is foolproof, it's how I met my wife.

Interesting...

I agree with Whiteout; it's better in the long run to ask the father's permission first. Bust him out of prison, then ask his permission. If your relationship level is as high as you claim, he'll definitely say yes.

By not asking his permission first, you'll get on bad terms with him AND gain controversy points, which are hard to lose.

Sorry, I didnt mention it in my original post but I already have his permission to pay court to her.

Don't forget the song! It sealed the deal!

You should have more or less 30 days to meet your lady... which means that you've got plenty of time to set her father free

Well you've had 2 days so you probably did it already but just for the sake of information:

Either or. Rescue him to get the rep. Don't ask him again, he'll never respond well. Just keep being sneaky and hope you don't get caught if he's there I guess.

In the long run, talk to him after you have like 25 or 30 relation and see if he just says "hey by the way she's in her room go talk to her'

That sounds like what happened in my latest game - which I assumed was actually a bug:

I raised my rep with her daddy until he was more than happy to give me permission.

After I visited her a few times I suddenly got a note saying that he didn't approve and I had be be sneaky, even though my reputation with him hadn't deteriorated. So after I visited I went straight back to him to find out what was going on.

When I talked to him a new dialog option appeared: "I ask you again: will you give me permission to visit your daughter", or something similar, along with the good old 'what would it take to form an alliance with your house' one.

So I asked him that, he gave permission again, and they lived happily ever after.
Neither sneaking in nor asking again had any visible negative effects.

Hooray for sig material!!

I know some lords seems to automatically like or not like you due to your honor ratings. Perhaps that is what happened.

The problem solved itself, the Sarranids and Rhodocks declared peace and the next thing I know I see a message saying he is raiding a swadian village.
I went to speak to him and it turns out he has withdrawn his permission and given it to another lord.
But she still sends me letters saying we can meet in secret and I have spoken to another Rhodock lord and have his permission to talk to his daughter.
When I went to visit her, the new girl that is, one of the guards winked at me so I am taking that as a good sign, the lord sees me as a good catch and that has filtered down to his men.
Although talking to a minstrel about her she seems to be a fairly difficult girl to win over, nothing like a challenge when wooing my next ex-wife.

Ever figure out why he stopped liking you for a while? I got the same when I went to changed factions.
(Assuming you were asking me) I have no idea. He was in a different faction, so that might have something to do with it - but we were not at war at any point, and neither my reputation with him nor my honor dropped. There was another suitor at some point, which might have been the reason,  but I learned about him a while after that... Maybe it was the sudden appearance of that other suitor that 'reset' the father's approval even though I was preferred?

That's sig material

I started over last night. Not gonna worry about the womens. They are too much trouble until I need the minister. I say that now but the first one I see I'll probably start wooing. Such a weakling I am. It's almost as bad as real life.

You're gonna need to get hitched to a lady if you plan to throw feasts. After all, the best way to a lord's heart is his stomach.

I married Lady Reada (Rhodoks, and she actually looks like a female!) with about 2 poems to her, 2 tournament dedications, +30 relation to her; 3 quests/tasks to Count Gutlans, a gift of some 30 soldiers, and +24 relation to him.
