Money System

Simply...is there a document anywhere that explains exactly how the money system in MP works? It's quite confusing and I really don't understand how, for example, I can not have enough money for a set of equipment but manage to spawn with it anyway.

From the top of my head:

You first start with a fixed amount of money, regulated by the server. 100% starter money are 1000 gold. Your standard-loadout consists only of free weapons and armour, except for the horses of the cavalry. You can upgrade that first stuff though, until your equipment is worth 1000 max.

When you spawn you lose that money.

When killing someone you also gain a fixed amount, there's also an option for that in the administrator-panel.

Now when you die, everything you bought will be bought again, if you do not have enough money for that, the game will downgrade some pieces for you. If you survive a round however, you'll keep your equipment and even receive a small round bonus.

Now here's a tricky part: It seems you can never have less than 1000g on normal servers. Even when upgrading the first pieces of your equip, and there's like 83g left - When respawning you'll be at 1000g again, allowing you to keep your starter-set.

Correct me if I'm wrong, it's 3am right now.

ah.

Anyone else think i'ts -much- easier to lose money than get money? It seems like the only way to get more than the default is to

a) Be on the side that wins most of the matches and

b) Only ever die when you lose

If I die most matches, even if I have a 2:1 or greater k/d ratio, I never even come close to breaking the starting 1500

Or is that just me?

You definately get 1000 gold for dying/spawning,  and it seems you get another 500-1000 for winning a match.  You get bonus gold for killing people as well, and any gold left over from your 1000 per life is carried over.  I usually start a match with a very light loadout of 400-500 gold,  so I keep 500 in my pocket.  Then after a few deaths/wins I have thousands of gold regardless of how I performed and I can afford better gear.

Well yeah every time you die you have to buy your equipment again. That's one of the problems I have with Battle, the winning team has more money, which gives them more of an advantage, which means they are more likely to win again. It's not much more likely as the equipment doesn't make THAT much of a difference but it is still a bit silly. Very rarely do I see Battle servers have splits, one side usually dominates the other, partly because of that reason. I don't really know a good way to fix this, or if anyone else even thinks it needs to be "fixed."

Re-spawning game-types are a different ballgame, you can survive even if the rest of the team dies so it is really up to individual play to determine how much money you have. I never have a problem getting good equipment on Siege, regardless of which side I'm on. You just don't die a lot is all. Also, if you want to make more money use less expensive equipment so when you do die you don't lose as much. I'll usually keep my equipment costs in the 600 gold range to save money until I have 3000k+ at which point I'll start using 1000-1200 gold kits.

By the end of a siege round I'll usually have 10,000+ gold if I'm on the winning side and about 5000+ gold on the losing side. If I'm on defense I'll splurge at the end to get a warhorse and heavy armor so I can slaughter a bunch of guys hitting the flag or push through to the gate controls on Castle 1 for instance. Or I'll just armor up and mess up some faces on the walls, whatever get's the job done.

All money settings are server side settings so it all depends on the server you are playing on.

On normal servers:

Default money is 1000, you can't go lower on any, its coded in.

You get +500 every round end.

You get more money for killing people with more expensive armour, so you'll get much more for killing a guy in brigadine than leather.

Sometimes it feels like I get money for nothing. Like I'll have enough to just afford all the best armour, and then I die without killing anyone, but still I get to spawn with that armour the next life too. I only remember that happening on siege though, maybe the rules are different there?

How much do you lose from dying anyway?

It's not exactly what you lose from dying, it's what equipment you pay for when you respawn. The items you choose in equipment screen are not a one time buy, it basically auto-buys them everytime you respawn, if you dont have enough gold it will downgrade stuff. The least amount of gold you can have is 1000, even if it says like 564 gold before you die, it will reset back to 1000 so you can purchase up to that amount no matter what.

In siege you get big bonuses for winning usually.

im guesing you have never played games like counter-strike? Its a very old game mechanic and it works very well I find. If your a skilled playre you can kill with any load out within reason and if your not well then tough its just part of the game and you will improve. It's better to learn how to play with bad equipment then good equipment anyway. Like in css (counter-strike source) when i first started I couldn't kill anything with the pistol your given on spawn and always had to buy an ak47 or something similar. I also died loads so i always needed body armour. Now I can kill just fine with pistols and body armour is just a bonus. If I buy an ak im just even better. I like it that way. It also adds a level of tactical saving up your money for specific items like people would save up for sniper rifles. Of course its not so effective in wb.

Roughly what I've seen is if you die you get half of your gear paid back (Minimum is 1000 total gold). Also I've seen that you get 300g for killing naked guys and up to 1200 for well armored guys. There is a combat gold bonus % that admins can set. If at say 200% you'll never run out of gold as you are unable to lose what you spend. :þ

For losing a round you get from 500-1000 and for winning I've seen 1000-1500.

This, but also you get a percentage of the cost of your equipment when you die.

Also, there is no penalty for upgrading something.
For example, if you have 300 dollar armour and upgrade to 1000 dollar armour, it will only cost you 700 dollars if you're alive.
