Money-Making~

Well, I've been playing for a while, and I've noticed the amount of money I was making has really slowed down. At first tournaments raked in the dough, but as they've noticed I've been winning ALL OF THEM the ratio of money to win has gone down a bit. My Army was quite powerful (and still is honestly) but I actually just let them fight a few battles without me so I could lose a few as I wasn't having trouble with fights and they were just absorbing money.

But really, my biggest drain of money is buying powerful items. I looked up what the best armor in the game is and it's EXPENSIVE and thus when I found one it drained my coffers to a rather small amount, buying that Masterwork War Bow took a nice bit as well.

Okay, ultimately my question is: what, in your opinion, is the best way to get money?

Don't just skip the loot, nor just take all of it and when your inventory is full next you win a battle just skip it. Take a look at it. is there anything usefull in it and what is most expensive. sell it off as often as possible. Believe me, the combination of looting and inventory management is my trick to get rich. Also care about what you are buying. If you prefer a bow above a crossbow then don't spend 15000 denars on a crossbow. If you would have any arms or armor in reserve then you can put it in your chest at your castle (If you have any) It spares an inventory place.
Another important thing. Make your army strong but not necessairy big. It's okay to have some reserves, but you must make sure that you earn more denars every week then you spend on troop wages.  And don't refuse fiefs from which you think this is too small (If the word is correct, I'm not sure if to use small or unworthy) for you. The taxes bring you more money then you think. Just make sure that your people live wealthy and that you have a good relation with them.

Slave trading! If you have high prisoner management, equip your companions with decent blunt weapons and go to town on the bandits.

Also, as Lord Tim said, take the loot after battles, though don't take items below a certain price (50 or 100 denars is a good cutting off point) or you'll just end up not being able to sell stuff to the merchants due to their full inventories. The amount of money you get from <50d items are typically really small anyway.

If you're at war you could capture enemy lords and wait for a ransom, though this isn't a very reliable way to make money due to the lord escape rates. Raiding is another very lucrative option if you're at war and don't care about pissing off enemy lords.

Trade is another option, though I didn't trade much when I played 1.011 so I can't give you advice here.

well, I'm still on 1.011 and I can't complain ^^.
Although with trade I don't mean listening to the merchants in town, buy all the goods and sell them off in a town where they cost more. That might fill your purse 'til level 10 or so. I actually ment selling of the loot.
Little hint, but it's a bit cheating though. If you want to get really rich you can edit the loot rate in your module.ini file. ^^ Ofcourse don't raise it too high or you could just use Ctrl + X in inventory. ^^

I find that I very rarely find any decent loot, I have the same tendency to look at items over 100 gold selling price, and even then 90% of what I find is either barely at 100 or beneath it.

I actually do sell prisoners, it's probably my #1 source of income these days, but it's really annoying when I just can't find a slave trader...

I was interested in trading at first, but I find that it really doesn't pay that much and the merchants end up not having that much money anyways so I can actually end up buying too much.

If enemy lords didn't magically escape so often it'd probably be my biggest source of income.

Ramun the slavetrader is always to be found in the tavern of Tihr ^^.
PS: In my opinion you should not leave low-price stuff. It might fills the merchants inventory, but that will have new space after an in-game day or so. When your looting skill increases and you get to defeat bigger armies, you will earn much better loot, but for now on you should stick with what you have.

I suppose that's true, but I figure with the rates I get with the lower valued stuff and how merchants in games love buying at 50% tops and selling at 150% minimum that anything beneath 100 is effectively a waste of time to even click.

another way is to place bets on yourself during tournaments, just raise 100 every round
Agreed. If you're sure you can win then this could give you like 10000 denars each ingame week. or maybe even more. But then you must be sure to win or you'll be losing 10000 denars a week. :p

Well u can buy cattle in villages like 22 -100 each. Then drive then near a town .Slaughter 5 of em u get 2 raw meat from 1 cattle so 5 cattle is 10 meat.Sell them to town.Like this u can make like 1k+ .In my opinion this is the best money making when u have luck to buy cattle at low prize. And then sell the meat to town

I already said I did tournaments and sold Sea Raiders, not sure why that was recommended, guess it was missed.

Does chopping up cattle and immediately selling meat actually pay well? It doesn't seem like it would.

Only if it is cheap cattle. (Look for a village with 100 cattle or so.) But I doupt it will be enough to pay of your wages if you ask me.

i was doing this quest for the GM of Wercheg  (single player btw) and i dismounted and the pony ran away.then it squished the guild master and he died  so if i come back will he  be alive?

I play 1.011. And I didn't think it was possible to kill a Guildmaster. But I don't think this is possible as every guildmaster is flagged as a hero = can't die. Although, it is possible for a hero to be removed from the game. (Like a king when a faction is defeated.) So if it even is possible to kill the GM then it would be possible I guess he doesn't return. But I doupt it. Why don't you just go and check it out?

Both suggested because well... they are good ways to make money.
If you feel like it you can edit your tournament betting amounts. This allows you to make more money obviously as you would be making larger bets.

Other than that, bashing sea raiders with a club is the best source of income I have found outside of raiding villages.

Not sure which version of the game you are on but if you are on warband just heading back and forth from rayvadin and wercheg you will always find raiders (if you didnt attack their fort) and can just keep bouncing between the two towns selling prisoners and loot.

If raiders are too hard for you (as they are me early game)  you can try around khudan for the taiga bandits. They don't sell for as much as raiders do but they are still worth over 100 denar each and tend to drop alot of blunt weapons if you are trying to outfit your companions (not good ones but decent enough for early game).

At this point I should probably point out that I used TweakMB to enable my tavern keepers to buy prisoners... got sick of hauling my prisoners around looking for ransom brokers.

Lol, yeah got warband now and Sea Raiders are VICIOUS. In original M&B I could single-handedly take out 20 of them as long as I had a decent weapon and a horse, now with a party of 10 I get slaughtered effortlessly by their endless assault and seeming inability to be hit.

Also a mod that allows tavern-keepers to buy slaves sounds swell.

It's not really a mod.. and should be able to be found somewhere here on the forums (its where I got it) its just a tool to allow you to change certain aspects of whatever module you are using.

Things like ammo for arrows/bolts and whatnot to how many troops you get minimum from a village recruitment or even your tournament bet amounts and exp earned from them.

I do have to say be careful when using it though... it can make a lot of nice things happen but can also make the game too easy imo. Settings like making minimum recruitments to 25 for instance makes it far too easy to raise a army, same goes for maxing out your tournament exp or maximizing your village taxes and whatnot.

Sure it seems like fun to not have to worry about money or where your next batch of recruits is going to come from but sweeping changes like that just ruin the game to me which is why I only use it for small changes like ammo count and making cattle follow me... little whatnots like that.

I hear that, I'm the kind of person who doesn't use cheat codes, because generally I feel like I would be cheating and thus I wouldn't be able to actually play the game realistically.

Does said tool allow you to pick your weapon in tournaments because bows can go right to hell...
