Money Making (Why is it so hard?)

Hi everyone,

I used to play Mount & Blade on PC (From vanilla through to warband) and getting money on PC seemed VERY easy? I'm now playing on Xbox one (and loving it) but getting money is a constant chore. I've tried trade routes, farming sea raiders, full manhunter teams and maxed prisoner management. I'm on a new playthrough on day 89, I have 10 Vaegir Knights, 15 manhunter and 8 companions all with blunt weapons. I'm level 6 trade, and I've never been above 6000 denars after upkeep & food purchases. Any ideas to help me out? My upkeep is about 1200 denars per week, selling 20 seabandits a day for 2110 on average. Where is all my money going?! If anyone had any top tips, please let me know. I'm in desperate need of money in game and it just doesn't happen.

Answer : Built the dyeworks in Rivacheg (had to get rid of all my troops except companions and farm sea raiders to raise the 10k)

Then I hired mercenary horsemen (cause of low trainer levels) and took out the big bands of sea raiders to get myself a 20k allowance, retrained my troops back to Knights and now I'm sitting on 1.5k a week profit with a 2.1k troop wage. Enterprises are key to maintaining a small elite army it seems!

You should focus on building enteprises and taking up jobs from lords, not relying on selling loot from bandits.

The jobs I recieve from lords are either low paying or mercenary work which I'm not ready for yet.

Edit : However when I take out sea raiders I'm making an easy 1.5k per group.

As mentioned above sea raiders also net me a lot of denars.  Between their gear and 15-20 prisoners I can get a few thousand rather quickly. Tournaments get me $1K-$3980 so I hop in them at every chance.

For all my Mount & Blade games I try to collect enough money to purchase best paying enterprises, eventually, I do not even need a fief to sustain a large army. You can earn some easy money and experience by asking town guild masters for a job, if it's a job to hunt down a party of bandits WHO have attacked a group of travelers, then take it. Also, if you notice any bandit hideouts, find the lord of the town, nearest to the hideout and ask that lord for a quest, he will give you an assignment to destroy the bandit lair and give you a large reward.

I'm level 6 trade,
All other tips aside, this was a waste of skillpoints tbh. The trade skill really doesn't make much of a difference in your buying and selling prices. I usually give a couple points to Marnid and forget about it.

One thing you could do is raid and look villages, I usually make around 1000-1200, off of each raid and managed to make around 13000 denairs by day 34

This leads to negative relations though, never a good thing.

Well, a week ago I was in the same position you are in now.
And now I have about 80k and gaining more and more with every budget report.
Here what I did:
1- I looted just few villages to make my first 10k and had my first profitable enterprise. Of course that won’t help if you have a big army so just keep as minimum soldiers as you can untill you get a decent amount of money.
2- I managed to get a very high relationship with the king and the most important lords (two lords to be exact) after that I repeatedly ask them for their support to be rewarded with villages that have been taken during a war. If the king supports you then you will have it. After a while I had been rewarded with two villages, one Castle, and Veluca city. Note that i didn’t even participated in the siege of the castle or Veluca. I got rewarded because my relationship with the king the two important lords was very good.
You will get a decent amount of rents from these properties and you can buy more and more enterprises.

Hope this was helpful. And please excuse my English if this reply isn’t clear enough:smile:

What I tend to do at the start of the game is once I'm Strong enough take on sea raiders, sell them and their stuff then I start to buy businesses ( specifically  brewery's).

Owning a Town is the easiest no-effort way of making money IMO.  So you just need to build up your army good enough to take one yourself and then you're basically home free.  I also increase my leadership skill as fast as I can as it reduces army wages significantly.  Once you get to 6,7 you will really see a difference.  So doing that and owning a Town and you'll be pulling in thousands each weekly payday while doing nothing.  The quasi-cheat way to gain money is also to go to tournaments, put a max bet on yourself before each round and win the whole tournament.  You will earn thousands for each tournament between the straight winnings and the winnings from betting.  If you lose, just quit the game and retry again.  Again, this is only if you're ok with save-scum cheating.

Starting out just do what everyone else is saying, kill some sea raiders. Once you get a good chunk of change buy a brewery or 2 in a couple of poor cities. (Poor cities have plenty of grain). Once you get those save up your money and buy an ironworks in Dhirim or another city with alot of iron. Usually brewerys are the best starting enterprises. And before you join a faction make sure you own a couple of businesses in multiple kingdoms. That way when your at war with one you'll still have income coming from another. Then just buy the velvet enterprise in every city you can. Especially Rivacheg. I think I was making 6-7k a week before having a feif. And don't get castles until mid to late game. There good for holding troops, but not for rents. So you usually lose a couple grand every week from them.  Also, dont do lord or guild master missions unless you want to build relations with them, they dont pay ****.

I did that but what i also did is when i took over towns which i normally did alot. i would request it to be mine. If it was denied i would leave the faction take the fief and then join the faction again. for some reason they accept you back instantly and let you keep it. Rince and repeat and youll get all the fiefs you want. by the end i had so much money i couldnt even keep a track of it. would spend on lordly armour and it would barely make a dent
