We all want a full fledged mulitplayer mod, with strategic map and everything. But consider this:
What is Half-Life? A great game, with a storyline, dialogs, adventure and so on. And what is Counter Strike? Just one map, where bunch of people shoot each other.
My point is, you don't need that much to enjoy multiplayer. I have a few ideas for upcoming multiplayer mod, based on fact there will be something like custom battle, where two or more players fight together and/or each other, commanding their troops.
Castle Strike Mod
Just interesting map, with a lot of places to hide and shoot from. Maybe spots designed especially to snipe from? (e.g. three towers, whose side puts its archers on them, gains great advantage)
Tactical Mod
Two players are put on high towers, overlooking the battlefield. No weapons are given. By giving orders you must prove better commander than other player (You can issue commands by clicking on a minimap, right? Never used this feature, but it's essential for this mod).
Archery Mod
Teams are separated by a wall, low enough to comfortable shoot from behind, high enough to prevent jumping over. You have to kill your opponents using range weapons only
Artillery Mod
Similar to Archery Mod, but you have various types of ammunition and guns at your disposal. Scorched Earth, anyone?
Race Mod
Whomever finish an obstacle course, wins.
Death Race Mod
Same as above, only with bows.
Pick-your-weapon[/b[
RPG Mod?
If we can make a string of custom battles, on each scene put a few enemies, and make it so after finishing one battle players are teleported to another scene we would have an illusion of moving through a dungeon. I believe this could be fun as well for singleplayer.
I think chaining custom battles is possible, is it possible also to generate random enemies from pre-defined list? And if one of this scene could include NPC Merchant, we could visit a shop now and then, sell loot, buy better equipment...
Don't hurt me, please, if you think it's too early for discussing multi-mods...
