Hi everyone,

While I was digging around the forum looking for answers on my questions, it occurred to me to note the links I found most helpful in answering the necessary “noob” questions, and to organize them into a reference of sorts. Hope it will help all you new modders as it helped me.

This list is incomplete, mainly because I am continuing to search the forum (and will be updating the Modopedia in the process), but also because I am sadly incompetent in the arts of modeling and texturing and have therefore omitted all questions related to this. If you want to add more links, please PM your list to me (preferably with a short title for each link) and I will edit this front post – just to keep the Modopedia in a single piece.

I tried to list only the most helpful links, to save time spent on browsing. Some material is repeated several times, some other is outdated. Let me know if I missed something.

A good place to begin – before reading this forum section and using Modopedia – is to do the Module System Documentation tutorial very carefully, step by step. It has answers for most of the noob questions, and time spent doing the tutorial will return tenfold when you get to actual work

Another general request to all those who post new threads would be: please make the names of your threads *specific*! Instead of writing smth like “Help me help me or I will die!!!” a more relevant “need help with creating an item (or whatever)” would be more in order.

This thread is vastly outdated -- last post was in 2005, for pity's sake -- especially as the edit mode has undergone significant changes in the last M&B version.

I'm not sure who stickied this, it wasn't me, but I don't really think we should make this list here.

The Q&A thread is for this stuff:

Many of these questions are answered there.  Though a lot are not.  I will go through and add what is not in the Q&A thread to that thread, and replace this thread with another sticky that links to the Q&A thread.  It is pointless to have 2 threads with the same purpose.

I appreciate the effort you made getting all the links though, it will be a great help updating the Q&A thread.

Hell, you're right... it looks like I've missed the most important thread of all :smile: . Though on the second thought, the Q&A thread seems misplaced. After all, it is this part of forum that most newb modders seek answers. Like me, for example. Wouldn't it be more logical to move the Q&A here?

Maybe, however this sub forum was originally just for Unofficial tools, however it is turning into more of a "Mod Making Help" forum these days... maybe the sub forum title should be changed.  BTW, most tutorials are in the Mod Discussion forum too.

I think if we have a sticky with a link to it, it should do though.  Just need to find some time to merge the 2 threads then I'll do that.

Changing the name would be good I think. Mod Discussion forum is generally used... well... for discussing mods already in existence. Besides, it's huge, and finding something in it may be a rather challenging task.

I looked for the tutorials there and found a couple (most are outdated). Yoshiboy has already mentioned some, the rest I included in the edited front post.

Great thread, glad I found it. However I am having trouble finding the .Py files.

I'm on vista and I already switched my Mount&Blade folder to make it more public so I can see all of the inner files, I want to edit Dialog, so, why can't I find any .Py files, as the Dialog Edit tutorial as linked within this thread states there should be?

welllll instead of being a complete noob here to piss you all off, I've decided to read a bit more. I just want a confirmation, must I use python to be able to see .py files in my M&B folder? thanks ahead of time for any response.

Yes, you must have Python and the Official Module System.

Thy python scripts do not come with the install, you need to download them seperately. They can be found in a stickied post in the modding section.

Awesome ... This at least gives me something to do and learn before i start making my mod..... though it seems like I will soon have  a headache trying to grasp it all.
~Good Job on Sticking it all together. Really helps a relatively uneducated modder like me.

Don't forget this stuff is from 2006, there may be plenty of new guides/docs/help stuff spread in the forum
