I've been to one show when I was down in the Disney Land area, their ok.Every one gets a paper crown with a coler that goes with one of the knights. The foods ok to.

Bleh...modern "jousts" are so cheesy, predictable and so obviously fake that they're not worth watching at all, IMO...

Or maybe the Rennisance Festival joust just left a bad impression on me o_O

Not all jousts are as fake as those at renesance fairs in the US..
I am with a group of norwegians that travel around in the summer and have jousting tournaments.
We use lancetips of balsa wood so they break a little easier but all is up to skill.
We hosted a international tournamet in oslo about a month ago.
Also one of our knights does tournaments thet uses real lanses of pine wood or something. That is crazy people. he has torn one of his chest mucles that goes out to his right arm because his lace was not hold properly in place when it hit the opponent.

www.frilansene.no <-- check us out if you are sick of bad medeival lookalikes.

We also do combat on the ground with blunted spears, axes swords and shields.

My first post, i would just like to say that M&B is the best game in the medieval category i have ever played. took me about an hour to decide to buy it...

There's only a bare handfull of groups doing it right. At least half of them are in some way connected with the Royal Armouries in London. The rest look so cheezy they make the fighting in movies like Beastmaster 2 look good. :???:

I was in a viking reenactment group a few years back, and the only fake thing about it was that people didn't sharpen stuff before they hit you with it. I was one of the lucky few that never broke a bone.

You sad lil kid, scared of something out of the ordinary so you have to lash out.

Anyways! On a lighter note, I've been taking part in historical reenactments for the last several years, I now earn my living by making arms, and armour for them, everything from chainmail and plate armour, to swords and axes, and al sorts. The only difference to the originals are modern steel, and the weapons are blunted for combat. We pull our blows, and try not to actually maim anybody, but most times you'll walk away from a fw bruises, and scrapes, tis inevitable, and accepted.

It's fun, we get into films, we keep fit (not that working all bloody day onthforge lets me get too flabby) and it entertains the public

Try it, or try going to a historical battle reenactment, you might learn something, and have some fun!

Hugs

You guys don't know what you're talking about(to all the "OMG U R FREEKS" etc people). LMAO. Medieval times isn't some sort of club you can join, it's a restaurant and show. You go there and you're seated in a giant arena and you get to watch them do a sort of play(i.e. there's a storyline), which includes jousting, sword and other weapons fighting. I've been twice.

They don't use combat lances, but the jousing *is* real. It's just like a regular tournament joust. They ride genuine trained horses (i.e. trained in medieval cavalry maneuvers) and use actual tournament lances that *DO* splinter and can cause serious injury. They also use real weapons, though IIRC they aren't extremely sharp.

It looks fun.

I went to a Medieval Tournament a long time ago near (I think) Aachen, Germany. There were real jousts, stuntmen in full plate armor knocked off their horses. I tried to shoot a longbow (I was about fifteen, not easy) and tried wearing chainmail armor (wow it's heavy). Some people were dressed up and playing traditional music, some were showing traditional arts in tents.

I don't think it's for freaks at all. There were all kinds of people and you're not forced to do anything. You walk around and do what you want. Eat hotdogs and just watch the fight or try out some activities.

It's not different but more interesting than watching wrestling on the TV.
